I have around 200 cast recordings now and I feel like there are about a million I want but don't have! How do you deal with buying them without maxing out your credit cards or breaking the bank?

You buy them gradually. I find that I don't buy them as frequently any more. I used to get the recordings for every show I saw.

I dealt with it when I stopped being so materialistic.

I preview the albums online or at Borders, and I think about if I really would listen to them. Sometimes I buy them, sometimes I don't. I also use coupons when possible at places like Borders. They currently have one for 40% off three CDs.

So, that was the Drowsy Chaperone. Oh, I love it so much. I know it's not a perfect show...but it does what a musical is supposed to do. It takes you to another world, and it gives you a little tune to carry with you in your head for when you're feeling blue. Ya know?

I always go to my local used-CD store, they have a deal where you can get 3 discs for $9.99. Unfortunately, they don't get new Broadway stuff so I bought all I need from their collection.
I suggest half.com, amazon.com, etc. I limit myself. I buy a couple once a month. If I know there's a new cast recording coming out that I REALLY want, then I just pay full price and just buy one that month.
Really, you have plenty of time to complete your collection. It's a lifetime activity, you don't need to have them all now. It's really fulfilling to see your collection grow as time passes by.
Also, sh-k-boom.com has some brilliant sales sometimes.

Right. If there's something I really want with a score that I really love, I'll just buy it.

Nowadays, those are so few and far between that I don't find myself wanting more than I can afford. I can't even remember the last new cast recording that I bought. Maybe GREY GARDENS?

I actually get it from the library. They don't charge you anything to take them out(if they do it's maybe 2 bucks). So I just put them on my Ipod.

Theft is indeed a good way. If your moral compass tilts that way. re: How do you deal with it?

That's not the same as collecting them though. There's a bunch of albums that I don't care to own so I go to the library and upload them in my computer, then transfer the songs that I like (if any) to my iPod.
There's nothing like having the actual CD in your collection though.
Munk, I know just what you mean. The last new CD I got was LOVEMUSIK, and that was in November, I think. I believe the next one will be IN THE HEIGHTS.

I managed to get just about everything by just biting the bullet and buying them when they're released. The first was the OBC of KISS ME KATE and I haven't stopped yet re: How do you deal with it?

If you know you want a certain show before it is released, Amazon.com will often have prerelease prices. I recently got LITTLE MERMAID for a nice low price. They do the same with DVD movies.
