I think it's a shame that someone as talented as Vivian Nixon has to be associated with something as hideous as Hot Feet.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I agree with uncageg. The show as a whole was definitely lacking, but I thought the band (yay Jeff Klitz!) and the off-stage vocalists were wonderful. I enjoyed the dance sequences very much, and would have preferred a dance show. I think it would have made more sense to make Hot Feet a dance/concert celebrating the music of Earth, Wind, and Fire rather than forcing them together with a lackluster book.
And as far as advertising goes... I've seen commercials. They highlight the dancing and the music and, I think, are quite effective.

I do not know why I wrote this but just to give you an idea of the horror that is HOT FEET. All this is done with horrible acting and repetitive dancing.
The show starts with a little girl looking at a marquee of a new show from the dance company Seprentine Fire. Then we watch a song from the show (In the Stone, Rock That/Boogie Wonderland). After the show, the little girl meets Louie "The Devil" who wants to sell her shoes... The little girl wants the Red Shoes, but he tells her she can only have them if she listens to his story first.
The story begins and we find Kalimba dancing in her room (When I Dance). Her mother comes in and tells her Dancing is not a good profession (Dearest Heart). Kalimba skips school and goes to an audition of the Serpentine Fire dance company. At the audition we watch the dancers jump to "September". Kalimba is late, but convinces Victor (manager of dance company) that she is the best. She dances for him (Turn It Into Something Good) and he says "Fine, You're In".
Kalimba's mother storms into the audition room and tells Kalimba the school called her. She finally lets Kalimba join the dance group. Meanwhile, the Devil and Victor plan to give Kalimba the Red Shoes.. when she wears them, the devil gets her soul. MEANWHILE, Kalimba is falling in love with the cheorgrapher of the company.
The big diva Naomi warns Kalimba the stage is not her place and they both dance together (Mighty Mighty). Then, Victor comes in and wants to see the dance the compnay was named after, "Serpentine Fire", so we watch it (Serpentine Fire). To end Act I, Kalimba and the cheorgrapher dance together (Fantasy).
Act II opens with Louie telling the story to the little girl and sings a horrible song of his own (Louie's Welcome). We're back in the story and the dance company performs Getaway, ALL DRESSED AS AIRPLANES. Victor gives Kalimba the title role in his new show HOT FEET and puts Naomi aside. Victor asks the cheorgrapher to show him the new dance he worked on, so we watch another repetitive dance (Dirty).
Kalimba and the cherographer fight, because he wants to leave the company and have his own dance company with Kalimba. She doesn't want to go with him and he dances to After the Love Has Gone.
MEANWHILE, the devil agrees to Victor's offer and will not take Kalimba's soul once she dances with the Red Shoes in HOT FEET, but says "Thie Ballet is gonna be a killer!". Victor goes to Kalimba's room and tells her he loves her. Her mother storms into the room and have a big fight with Victor (You Don't Know). Then, she tells him Kalimba is not just another dancer.. She's his daughter! Kalimba hears this and runs away.
Now we watch the HOT FEET Ballet which is a 20-minute dance with the songs HOT FEET, LET YOUR FEELINGS SHOW, SYSTEM OF SURVIVAL, SATURDAY NIGHT, AFRICANO, STAR, FACES. At the end of the show, Kalimba falls and dies. Her mother sings the song Kali.
The little girl doesnt want the shoes anymore and goes home. End of story. We watch a mega-mix of September with all the dancers, The End.

Thank you for the summary and allowing me to relive those horrific two hours of my life... much appreciated. BUT, question still not answered- in the beginning does
protégé child actually see her dancing? Is she not dead?

Posted: 7/6/06 at 10:39pmI think the Kid is seeing her dance in HOT FEET with the red shoes, and then the devil "takes her back in time" and tells her the story. But, when HOT FEET actually happens in the story and she dies, well, i have NO idea. :)

Sounds alot like HAIRSPRAY.

Sounds alot like BKLYN's struggle between Brooklyn and Paradice.
