I read on the message board recently that the male lead of Lincoln Center's SOUTH PACIFIC has left for two months. I am seeing this production next Friday night and wonder what to expect. Is it the understudy, or has someone been especially brought in? I would appreciate comments.

David Pittsinger is an opera singer -- and he just ROCKED the house with his THIS NEARLY WAS MINE. Totally stopped the show. What a voice! and an edgy, interesting take on the character. We'll be seeing more of him, I hope - in this show and more to come.

I saw the show last night and he was fantastic. Wonderful voice. Bloody Mary's understudy was filling in, and she also did a wonderful job. The whole production was just amazing.

I saw SP 5 times and last night I saw it with David . He's a good replacement and did a nice job.
but honestly, the show is not the same without Paolo....
I already have tickets for february...I can't wait!
Paolo's rendition of "This Nearly Was Mine" makes grown men cry....
unforgetable!

I agree. I saw David( looks on stage like Stanley Tucci..., no, not really...) does an amazing job but the charming Tony Award winner Paulo Szot is soooo missed....

Stanley Tucci is amazing as the new male lead in SP!
Does David Pittsinger not wear a wig or a hairpiece?
