How many times are understudies and stand-bys guaranteed to go on?- Page 2

A friend of mine had a lead role in Mamma Mia and it was in her contract that she had to give certain Sunday night shows to the understudy. Not sure exactly how that worked.

That's very interesting about MANDATED time off - is that for the protection of the regular performer? That is to say, is REQUIRING them to take time off with the idea that they must occasionally rest their voices?

I wonder of the actor being required to take time typically negotiates for full pay & no deduction from vacation allottments. Hmmmm.

When Deidre Goodwin (A Chorus Line) went on vacation last August, Lorin Latarro was brought back to cover Sheila for two weeks.

When I was on tour (non-equity), understudies only went on if the principal was out/sick.

But when I did the Equity tour, the swings got to go on a cetain number of times.

I think it just varies from show to show, but it does happen.

The understudy for Christine in PHANTOM on tour is contracted to do some matinee and evening performances each month.

The understudy or the alternate? Because all Christines have an alternate that does two shows each week.
