Obviously, one parent has to be with the child and I would think the other parent stayed at their home and went to work to pay those bills.

Hmmm...that's a good question. I don't see how they would fit into equity, or the director's union....maybe they are considered house staff? (Although that doesn't seem right, either.)
I'm sure they each have very unique duties -- however, they are just babysitting -- aren't they? (So I don't see how getting them dinner is that big of a deal.)

"Also keep in mind that if a child is under 18, NY law requires that a certain percentage of the check goes in to a trust fund that cannot be accessed until the child is 21. This is a law that went in to action after the original run of Annie when the parents blew through all their kids money."
That was going on WAY before Annie and is known as the Jackie Coogan Law.
A little history on that from the SAG website.

Dorothy Loudon told Dick Cavett that while she loved working with the kids in ANNIE, the mothers were a different story. They used to sit in the wings of the Alvin Theater with their knitting needles and yarn and would not stop talking the entire performance. While the audience couldn't hear them because of the theater acoustics, Loudon heard every word they said and it drove her crazy.
Cavett then asked her, "Did you ever think of yelling 'Hey you mothers, SHUT UP!'"

Posted: 6/24/12 at 10:58amFrom mhy experience, the child wranglers always seem to be a spouse/partner of one of the cast members. In other words, it's a job you get by knowing the right people.

Posted: 6/24/12 at 11:30amConnections make the world go round. When I saw Bonnie and Clyde (near the end of the run.) the wrangler's mum was sitting next to me. Both being singles, we had struck up a nice conversation. She mentioned that her daughter was already commetted to wrangling for the then upcoming Newsies.

Up till just a few years ago, wranglers were non-union and made as little as $50 a show. Thanks to some industrious wranglers they are now members of the wardrobe union and I don't know their salaries, but it's more than $50 a pop and they now get benefits and small percs.
As far as dinner and stuff, they are paid to watch the kidsduring the show hours, nothing more. If a parent asks a wrangler to watch a kid between shows it is between them, a free meal and a sawbuck or two goes far for a wrangler.
A joke amongst kid actors are that they make more than the adults hired to wrangle them.
