Carol Channing as host.

equal time for plays

each freaking musical gets to do a whole number or medley
let's show more than a :30 clip with no context for the plays!

It's always hard to get a clip from the plays. The songs in a musical can stand alone, but it's much harder for a clip from a play.

I can see Ashley Brown fly to the stage as an opening number.

oh YEAH! MORE still photos, lines out of context, brief unitelligble snippets and synopses of plays! THAT will certainly make the show LESS boring.

Sorry-- where is my "SARCASM" key?

A host...and a legitimate, CREDITED host...

...and I want to exclude Hugh. Sorry baby. You're hot and I love you, but I can't sit through you again

I'd like the Tony's to get a host, and yes, more play recognition. Anyone else feel that some performances were much longer than others?

Maybe Bruce Vilanch can write a few good jokes? An opening number written by Flaherty & Ahrens?

i LIKED that there was no host. they just zipped right along to the scenes from the shows and the awards. it wasn't such a bad show, it's just that the shows and winners were less than spectacular this year.

i agree about the opening number. harry sounded like crap. and i thought he would have developed a "broadway" voice, instead of just using his same old jazz voice.

Well, since this was one of the most boring and pointless Tony Award ceremonies I have seen, to make it better next year try to avoid whatever was done this year. Don't make it so predictable, pick an actual host, no Harry Connick Jr. pretending he can command the stage in such a bland opening, no medleys for the musical numbers, and yes I agree they should let actors perform excerpts from the nominated plays.

Stop worrying about what the non-theater buffs will want to be (that means no Hugh, no LL, no Harry Connick Jr opening act). I did think that this year was very nicely done and that they integrated the Hollywood and Bway names quite well. And TEACH YOUR CAMERA OPERATORS HOW TO FILM A PRODUCTION NUMBER. I don't want to see someone's face when they are dancing, I want to see the entire stage. Just leave that zoom alone and let the performers do their work.

"And TEACH YOUR CAMERA OPERATORS HOW TO FILM A PRODUCTION NUMBER."

That is so true. There was a moment during Drowsy Chaperone were they cut away from Sutton and the camera should have been on her.

This is very true, the camera cut to Bob Martin completely away from Sutton Foster, which was completely absurd.

I think that plays should be recognized, but they'll never get more time on the Tony's. No one outside of theatre people want to see scenes out of context. For next year they need to have the movie Dreams do the opening number. I know some people might not like it, but I want Rosie O'Donnell back. She brought such a sense of fun to the Tony's.

I would like to see more excerpts from plays instead of just pictures and a synopsis. I would limit it so it doesn't get too boring, but the plays deserve some exposure to see the actors work. It would be hard, but I'm sure there are enough talented people in the business to come up with something. Has it ever been tried, if not, it would be worth it?

Also, I didn't notice too much difference with or without a host.

Bring back the background footage on the technical awards, scenes from the nominated plays, and Rosie O'Donnell.

Another thing: I think that the Tony committee will learn a lot from this year. Especially what with a lot of the voters not completing their responsibility of seeing the shows, which a lot of them had not.
