Posted: 11/1/11 at 3:06pmI'm confused, I know the lottery policy was supposed to be one ticket per winner, but I heard they are giving out two tickets because so few people do the lottery since it's students only. Is this true? I wanted to try the lottery when I come to the city in a few weeks and I'm bringing a friend that isn't a student.

When I did it, they said that we could buy 2 tickets each because there were significantly less lottery entrants than tickets available.
I'd imagine in the future if it gets busier, they will go back to 1 per winner.

Posted: 11/1/11 at 8:06pmYeah, it completely depends on how many people enter. When I put my name in they said only one ticket per entry, but when they drew names and only three of us had entered, they offered us all pairs. They're probably surprised so few people are participating (I suspect it might become more popular once the show officially opens).

And someone on ATC also spotted Candice Bergen in the show --

A knockout star performance like I've never seen. He makes it look so easy and works so effortlessly (so it seems) to please the audience.
In the audience: Candice Bergen, Florence Henderson, Angela Lansbury.
A great, great night.<<<<

Posted: 11/2/11 at 3:01pmI went last night. When they have 9 or less people. Everyone gets 2 tickets. but when they have more, you only get one if you win. Luckily, there were exactly 9 people there so we all won. Me and my two friends all called a friend so 6 of us got to go together. Seats are in the box, but the view is fantastic, especially in the left boxes, you'll get a surprise.

Went tonight. Oddest lottery I've ever been a part of.
First, when you win, it's only 1 ticket. For us, this was no big deal, as there were around 15 people, but what if you win and you're not sure if you're friend will? You have to accept the ticket, then if they don't win, you ditch them?
Also, there doesn't seem to be an easy way to sit with your friend if you both win. We went up together with our winning tickets, told them we were together, and ended up getting seats in boxes on opposite sides of the theater!
Third, they seem to be very concerned about people re-selling them. You have to pay when you win, but you then have to come back right before curtain to pick up the tickets--they staple your printed ticket to your lottery form. So, I can sell the ticket if I get it 2 hours before, but if I get it 30 minutes before, I won't have that luxury? Also, they write down the full name of each winner on a separate sheet, in addition to the "winner's card" they give you on which they write your full name. Seems like overkill.
I mean, I got to see the show from a solid seat for $31.50, so I can't complain, but it was just very odd. And if I was there on a date or something, and not just with a friend I was hanging out with casually, I'd be a very disappointed they split us up!

Just wondering, since I was there last night and read the last post, why there were so many older folks in the boxes who didn't look in any way to be students?
SPOILER ALERT BELOW!!!!
Is the critical box seat (and you know what I've mean if you've seen it) up for grabs in the lottery, too?

Posted: 11/4/11 at 11:08amTonyVincent, that does sound very odd. What do they do with that "separate sheet"? Do the ushers look to cross-check? Very involved, indeed.

Posted: 11/16/11 at 12:13amTonyVincent, I assume they're purposefully spreading out the single seats as people win in order to further decrease the likelihood of someone being able to sell their ticket (which explains why they put you and your friend on opposite sides of the theater even though you said you were together.)

Posted: 11/17/11 at 3:58pmAre they insanely strict about student id's? I still have mine from college, no year on it at all, and still look exactly the same in my photo.

Mine doesn't have a date on it and I was fine.
They've also changed it so that you can only do it if you're under 30.

For those that might be interested. They sell standing room in advance for $26.50. Last Friday night, I purchased a standing room for Sunday matinee. Its a great spot at back of orchestra. However, the security personel hover around the back of the orchestra. They are very distracting. Constantly whispering to each other and moving about. I'm not sure why. The only VIP in the theatre, to my knowledge, was Alan Rickman.

Fan2, I attended the November 13 matinee. I stated I bought my Sunday standing room ticket on Friday. Did you like it? I didn't think it was all that. But the security were irritating me. It was okay for them to talk and move constantly about, but when I squatted down for a few seconds to see the top of the projection, they informed me that I MUST stand.

YES!! When I saw HISTORY BOYS there, I leaned down to tie my shoe and the guy came over and actually yelled at me to stand up. At MERCHANT OF VENICE I took a few steps back to just stretch my back and got yelled at again to stand against the wall.
Just because I'm doing standing room doesn't mean I'm 5 years old and need to be treated as such. Those security people at The Broadhurst can suck it, choke on it and die.
