The tenor is supposed to be an ideal Nazi (blonde hair, young, strong, intelligent, ect. ect.)
Gotcha... but jacob, did you read what I said about Oklahoma! ?

*shrug* We'll see. We don't have even have a source for this information, so I'll stop worrying about his hair now. :P

Yes. It wasn't on the big screen...but it was still a movie.

True- but a straight-to-video film of a stage production that wasn't available in the U.S. for years isn't exactly the same as a full-blown movie musical.
I never said it was.
What I was trying to say... maybe he should wait till he plays a bigger part of the musical movie, then a leading tenor in the Producers. He could be a lead in a movie musical in the future, why doesn't he just wait till then. But I ask these questions, but I personally doubt he is even in the movie.

Well, as much as I adore Hugh, I thought Eric Gunhus not only sang this beautifully, he was might good on the eyes as well. I'd rather he were playing this part.
(Hugh would be funnier as Roger DeBris' choreographer).

I still don't get your logic, kangaroo, but you're free to it. :)
And Mamie, I think I like that idea. Hee.

A blonde Hugh ??
He is the blonde kid on the right ( from the family album)

Interesting and wicked possibility
It could have the same impact as when he sang Music of the Night ( bits of it) in SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. Whoa!! - Hugh Jackman can sing ??!!!
Jo... I loved Hugh in POTO scene from SNL. I thought it was just hilarious, and I loved how he used his real talent to show through. The link below has it if anyone wants to see it... It is closer to the bottom, and it is #2 of the SNL skits.

I have 2 friends who were cast as dancers for the movie so if I hear that this is a fact I'll let you all know.
Hugh is a personal friend of Stroman and her associate Warren Carlyle as a result of "Oklahoma!" so the rumour could well be true. In a previous post I mentioned that Carol Burnett wrote to Mel Brooks asking to play Hold Me Touch Me, so the film might well be studded with celebrity cameos.

Carol Burnett would be great!
Oh, and as for the the blonde Hugh thing, Springtime for Hitler is an extremely exaggerated farce. So, its not really necessary for Hugh to be blonde. Although, now that I think about it, it may be much funnier if they have a really bad wig on him...

I was reading this thread and the first thing I thought was he'd have to be aryan in a nazi ideal way, much as are Gunhus' looks, but then I did think how you could use the lack of these features and the attempt to cover them could be used.--ie, it *is* Roger DeBris directing it...
The idea of cameos in this movie has been discussed ad nauseum on this and other boards. This movie lends itself well to that concept since there are little old ladies, audition roles and a bunch of other places you could put a cameo.
As for Jackman, I don't find him suitable for the Springtime solo...he doesn't have the right voice or look for it...but they'll do what they do...and not consult us...so the rumor may or may not be true. I guess we'll see. But to say that he's too big for a cameo, is ignoring what a CAMEO is...it's a very short appearance (Gene Hackman's cameo in Young Frankenstein wasn't even credited until the very end and was never advertised and it was great).
I thought that they could have cast the original principals in the Producers (gary, roger, nathan, cady, matthew, brad, etc.) and then made up for box office with lots of cameos...look at the success of the cameos in Austin Powers and other movies...but that's just me, I guess.
I hope they do cast some interesting people like Carol Burnett etc. It will make the movie even better. Still, I'm not sold on Hugh in Springtime, but then I haven't seen it reported ANYWHERE other than here.
I haven't really either for a long while, and if anyone would know... it would be one of his fan sites. But anyway, I think that cameos would probably work out pretty well. I know that Patrick Swayze was in the movie Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, and it made a lot of critics feel better about the movie. I was kind of hoping they would stick to the cast the Broadway folk know best... Uma Thurman?

Some times actors do "lesser" stuff just -cos they wanna. Robin Wiliams took what amounted to an extended cameo in "Dead Again" cos he wanted to work w Ken Branagh. Dan Ackroyd did a cameo in The Temple of Doom cos he is a friend of Spielberg. Also Glenn Close in Hook. They do stuff like that cos it is fun for them & they have no burden of carrying the film.

I think the rationale of Hugh's role with kangaroo and I is--
He has not been established in the outside-of-the-theatre community as a song-and-dance man (although, he IS one).
Besides OKLAHOMA! on home-video, or THE BOY FROM OZ on CD, there is no access for people to be acquainted with his musical theatre talents...
For him to make a cameo, in my opinion, will confuse the public when they see "Wolverine" singing in this campy-movie-musical production number... not equating that he is a Broadway and stage star, in addition to kicking ass on the big screen.
I think that the reaction would either be... "Mr. X-Man took THAT role..." or, on a better note, "Wow, Van Helsing can sing... I wonder if he's done anything like this before, or will do it again on a bigger scale?" (Then DISNEY reaps all the benefits with an onslaught of brilliant Hugh-headed movie musicals.
Thanks anothapartofme... you explained it a lot better than I did.

Not a problem, kangaroo... I'm in your boat. I'd love to see him in anything, regardless :o)

So? Let them be confused. Besides, one of the few goodish things to come out of Van Schmelsing was the fact that Jackman spent half its promotion blitz talking about The Boy From Oz instead. It's no longer that shocking to a lot of people that Jackman sings and dances.
