The latest on Hugh is that he will be home for the Australian Football League finals where he will sing the national anthem on September 25, which I have seen him confirming on a TV interview. Does this mean it will rule out any possible filming of the stage show, if at all?
Darren Aronofsky, the director of Hugh's upcoming movie THE FOUNTAIN, has announced that filming will commence on November 1 in Montreal.
It seems that no decision has been made yet to close the show. There are strong rumours that they are pursuing Jim Carrey to replace Hugh in the show. What do you think of Jim in the role?
Act? (Sorry, it was just a good set up).

But actually, I think Carrey might be capable of doing the acting required for BFO. He certainly wouldn't have to tie himself down as tightly as he did for The Truman Show, for example- he seemed too repressed there. I loved his performance in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. And I'm sure he'd do a fine job with the comedic and improvisational elements of the show. But who knows if he can sing?
Last I heard, they were going after Russell Crowe. Now that's playing against type.
I think they should get Jennifer Lopez.

Imagine Robin Williams in the role? He could start ad libbing with the audience and free associating. Ewwww
I would rather see Jennifer Lopez.
Is it just me, or in the Boy from Oz ad, Hugh looks A LOT like Jim Carrey? I noticed that awhile ago-- but it's only in the ad.
I just looked at the cover of the CD and he actually does resemble Jim Carrey in the photo on the left.
Hmm.. Jim Carrey? I am not feeling that. Hes a little too.. um whats the word.. NUTS! Plus, I don't see him singing and dancing.

Hugh's last day is Sept. 12, but I think I read somewhere (maybe Variety) that there would be a "benefit performance" on Sept. 13 - my first thought was that they might be filming it (if this story is true). I also read about him singing "Advance Australia Fair" at the game in Australia (would love to hear that). He will probably go back to Australia after he's finished with BFO and rest for a month and then will go to Montreal to film "The Fountain" on Nov. 1. X-Men 3 (which as far as I know he's not signed for yet) starts filming in June and another rumor is that they want to do X-Men 3 and 4 back to back. Hugh's name is attached to so many rumored movies it's hard to keep up.

So just why were Steve Wynn and Mark Schorr making such an excited display of themselves Sunday night during the Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall in New York City?
We hear that Wynn is also looking to import Hugh Jackman to the Strip.
Jackman is planning to do a recurring one-man show called "Hugh Jackman's Broadway," which will open at Wynn Las Vegas.
Jackman is starring in "The Boy From Oz," directed by Philip McKinley, a former longtime theater teacher at Henderson's Burkholder Junior High School. McKinley would direct Jackman's solo effort.
Wynn and Schorr were traveling back to Vegas on Monday and could not be reached for comment.<<

As I said on the other thread, this rumor is so out there it can't possibly be believed. And since there are no quotes from the relevant parties, Jackman and Wynn, I think I'm just going to laugh it off.
Jim Carrey is scary. He doesn't have the charm to play the role. He is just a big goof.
Jim Scarey has some SERIOUS mental issues, which he has spoken about here and there. I even believe he goes to therapy several times a week. Broadway material he isn't. Hugh missed never, Jim would miss more than he wouldn't
It has been reported on the Australian Today television show (Tuesday) that Russell Crowe will succeed Hugh Jackman in The Boy From Oz.
Wowow do these people sing or dance?
Russell Crowe started out as a singer in New Zealand. He has appeared in Australia in The Rocky Horror Show and The Blues Brothers Show. I can't see him as Peter Allen though. Still, there could be some good brawls around the bars of Broadway.

According to someone at the BFO boards, the Russell Crowe rumor originated with Ben Gannon, which would make it pretty reliable. But man, that sounds weird.

I understand that The Daily Telegraph in Australia has also mentioned the rumour about Russell Crowe succeeding Hugh in THE BOY FROM OZ. Will he be finishing his film shoot for THE CINDERELLA MAN soon? There must be a lot of physical preparations to get into this very exhausting role - dancing and vocal training as well as stamina building( Hugh sings more than 20 songs every night and has quite a few dance numbers).
Doesn't Russell have his own music band - I read somewhere that he plays with them up to now. Maybe he wants a change of pace from his movie-making success.

He does. Thirty Odd Foot of Grunt... Interesting name... but if you've heard them play you'd know why Russel as Peter Allen is a bad BAD idea.. He's painful to listen to.
If they're going after Australian actors, I'd prefer Guy Pierce.
Carrey can sing and probably dance... he's quite limber.
Guy Pierce would be much, MUCH better than Russel Crowe.
Carrey is more of a comedian though than a musical theater actor...don't you think?
