. Would love it if it could happen.
In this very theatre, The Story of My Life Tanked big time and closed Next to Normal came in very quickly and was a hit with audience and The Tony Commitee.

Next to Normal was already scheduled to open on Broadway that season at the Longacre. They just switched to the Booth when it became available, everything else was already in place.

I would love for a Lazarus announcement to be made...I hear some real work has been done on the book.

LAZARUS is not the show that would have been moving into the theater this fall.

Heard that the Cate Blanchett play 'The Present' is going into the Booth in the fall.

Is there any way that another show opens in the Booth before the Tony cut off? There's 4.5 weeks between Hughie's last performance and the cut off opening date. I know it won't be Lazarus, but weren't there other small shows circling for a theater this spring?

I saw HUGHIE this past Tuesday night, 3/22. I absolutely loved Forest Whitaker in "The Last King of Scotland" - he terrorized me to my core - so I was thrilled at the opportunity to see a him up close. I loved Frank Wood in "Sideman" too - so I dove in: We bought center orchestra tix in row A for what would definitely qualify as one of the most miserable performances I have ever experienced. I truly did not think it was human possibly that someone who pulled off the tile role in "The Last King of Scotland" could produce such a truly terrible performance. It was only 55 minutes but it felt like for--ev---er. There were many long silences where the audience was guessing if Whitaker was having a "moment' or searching for a line. All too often, it seemed to be the latter. Whitaker's delivery for the first 55 minutes was so hushed and light and monotone - it sounded like he was trying to out us to sleep. He had some success with this - several very loud snorers in the first few rows (they must have been able to hear them on stage, sadly) - and then lots of giggles when their companion abruptly woke them up! I can't imagine why someone like Frank Wood would want this totally thankless role. The last 5 minutes they interacted a bit (finally) and Whitaker's performance improved significantly - but it was way too little, way too late.
I would love Lazarus to get The Booth. That was the best show I've ever seen that I had very little idea what was actually occurring - but it was mesmerizing!

What a shame it's closing -- just when its star has learned nearly half of his lines and blocking!

Oh, has he been turning down other Broadway contracts for this?
