Humans or Crucible or Eclipsed

Evening all.

Next trip to NYC, I was thinking of spending one evening being depressed at the theatre. Looks like it's a good year for that --

Wondering which you would recommend -- Humans? Crucible? Eclipsed? Psycho? Father?

Your help will be very much appreciated.

You should definitely see American Psycho and The Humans. Both amazing shows!

Well the only one on your list I've seen (so far) is Eclipsed but I thought it was brilliant. I cried most of the subway ride back from the show.

I love this.

The Humans & The Crucible are both great. It depends how long of an evening you want to have.

Humans or Crucible or Eclipsed

Being depressed at the theatre is certainly a worthwhile endeavor. Of these three, my personal favorite was Eclipsed. It's heartbreaking, it's original, and the performances are brilliant. I quite liked The Crucible too, but it is a Van Hove show so some of the content differs pretty sharply from the source material/popular previous productions and it's been pretty controversial amongst audiences. I know I'm in the minority on this, but I didn't love The Humans. It's not as plot/focus-driven as the kind of things I usually like, and I didn't think it did anything very different or better than the many, many other "dysfunctional family" shows out there. But I'm also aware that that's just my opinion. Most audiences have loved The Humans, so you probably can't go wrong with it. I hope you have a great time no matter what you choose!

I really liked all three, and don't think you can go wrong with whatever you choose. However, if I had to rank them, I'd rank them The Crucible, The Humans, and then Eclipsed.

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

I saw all three. The Humans would be my top pick. I did love Eclipsed as well though. Didn't care for The Crucible expect for a few great moments here and there.

If you are looking for a depressing evening out at the theater, don't rule out Blackbird.

Now THAT one is TOO depressing......

Humans or Crucible or Eclipsed

This is such a strong season for plays that this is just about the hardest question to answer. I deeply loved all three. The Humans and Eclipsed are both incredible new plays. I might give the edge to Eclipsed only because The Humans has proven to be a bit more divisive. And The Crucible, while a stunning production, is VERY divisive, so just in terms of the safest odds, I'd lean Eclipsed.

The other two you mention (Psycho and Father) I found really ambitious though ultimately flawed. I don't think they're quite in the same (extremely high) class as the others. So...yeah: 1) Eclipsed. 2) The Humans. 3) The Crucible. You really can't go terribly wrong with any of them, though.

Given the same choices, I opted for Eclipsed. I can't tell you what I think of it, though, because I don't see it until the 24th. Humans or Crucible or Eclipsed

I haven't seen Crucible. While I loved the Humans, I thought Eclipsed was better. And if you're looking for a depressing evening of theater, Eclipsed is devastating.

I think the best idea is to follow up any one of these with Disaster or Charles Busch's Cleopatra. Or Shear Madness, for that matter.

As another mentioned, Blackbird is certainly atop the list of depressing shows this season. If not that, I would go with The Humans. I had to actively walk that one off.

I've seen all three, and I'd go for The Humans as my first choice. The Crucible is great as well.
