So, this is the version that is coming to Broadway. However, there are changes that you guys may not like.
The comments from the video:
"We received a license from Disney Productions to premiere the English version of Hunchback. Disney is now workshopping this musical for a possible run on Broadway. Our director, Mr. David Snyder, recently returned from NYC where he helped to cast talent for the new show!"

Posted: 1/16/14 at 2:02pmI suspect that this is not the finished version of the show. Disney has sent out lesser-quality derivatives of their properties before for small-scale licensing by appointment only many times.

TKA To Feature ‘Hunchback Of Notre Dame’
By Town-Crier Editor at November 30, 2012
In a groundbreaking move in 2000, the King’s Academy Theatre Company collaborated with Disney Executive Studios to produce Beauty and the Beast for the amateur stage. Beauty and the Beast has now been produced on hundreds of school and amateur stages across the country since that first collaboration and production on the King’s Academy stage. The King’s Academy Theatre Company is collaborating once again with Disney Executive Studios to produce and premiere the stage adaptation of its well-known animated film, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which debuted in theaters in 1996.
The film is based on Victor Hugo’s novel, with musical score written by renowned lyricists and composers Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz, famous for the musicals Beauty and the Beast and Wicked. Disney Productions has been discussing the setting of this film classic for the stage for quite some time. Menken and Schwartz have composed 11 new songs for the show, and the film script has been adapted for stage by TKA performing arts faculty and staff.
Auditions for this production were held Saturday, Oct. 6, with more than 180 students in attendance. Rehearsals for this spring production began in November. There is much excitement and energy surrounding this project, with everyone thrilled to be part of this special TKA event. The show will open April 18 and run through April 27.
Disney Productions will work alongside cast and crew throughout rehearsals and performances. The production team will come to West Palm Beach to view a series of rehearsals in February as well as come back for opening weekend.

It would be great if Drew Sarich played the role on Broadway. I know he may be considered a bit too old to play the character but he still has a brilliant voice and the acting ability for it. I would also like to see Earl Carpenter or Terrence Mann play Frollo.
I think it would be interesting to see what the production would look like in terms of set and costume design compared to the Berlin production but I do hope they keep the dark gothic themes Berlin had as both Heidi Ettinger and Sue Blane's designs were great. I would like to see Natasha Katz design the lighting as her previous work for Disney were fantastic.

It's going to premiere at the La Jolla Playhouse during the 2014-2015 season.

@Mattbrain I totally read that as Madea! lol. Not gonna lie.
Totally excited about Hunchback! Each piece of news is one stop closer to an English recording of the new score! lol. I bet they'll get Jeremy Jordan for Quasimodo, but wouldn't be surprised if they asked Drew Sarich. Wasn't Jeremy in the readings Disney held recently?

It says the concept is an "intimate retelling." So help me God if they screw this up...
At least it says there is focus on the lush, orchestral score.
What was the last Disney show to come out of La Jolla? STARCATCHER.
Needless to say I'm concerned, yet cautiously optimistic.
Perhaps it could follow suit of ALADDIN and start out small, then evolve into a spectacle for Broadway that the material demands.

^^Yeah, it'll either immediately transfer over like NEWSIES, Lion King etc. o it'll take 3 years like Aladdin. I imagine because of the tiny theatre space, they will have to close Newsies to give Hucnhback a home.
BTW: The article says 2 people who's in it. Couldn't they say the whole cast?!
And it's too bad that Bertie Carvel is in the UK, making shows. He would have been great as Quasimodo.

What honestly surprises me more than anything, though I wish it didn't, is that currently - for the first time ever - all of Disney's Broadway productions are male-centric and are based on films that largely were designed to appeal to boys (and girls as well, but targeted boys). It seems they are keeping the trend with HUNCHBACK as well.

Posted: 1/24/14 at 10:27amAs I have said before about this show, the treatment I've seen was written by a creative on Peter and the Starcatcher. This show as specced is not going to be lavish.

Disney proved they could small scale with Newsies and Peter and the Starcatcher so it'll be interesting how Hunchback is done.
