I love Sutton and could truly see what talent she brought to the role when I returned to Drowsy and she was no longer in.

I think Sutton plays a great ingenue and has range and talent, but not that of a Reno. Reno has a bit of crass, & a lot of brass. She is supposed to be a nightclub singer and I really can't imagine in that role.

No, I don't think she'd be great for the role, but people always seem to be bashing her. She has great stage presence, a clear and pretty voice, and she's pretty cute.

I am a Sutton Foster fan as well, but at least at this point, I have no interest in seeing her play Reno Sweeney at all. I don't think it's a role that would fit her in any way, at least for the time being, especially when you have the likes of Murphy, Audra McDonald, Catherine Z. Jones, etc who are much more appropriate.

I don't know... Sutton Foster has a kind of old fashioned musical comedy presence with Merman like pipes. I just think that she would be able to SELL those songs better than a lot of other actresses. Also, I know she hasn't done traditional musical comedy, but how about Anika Noni Rose? I would also be intereseted in Jenny Powers.

I don't know, Jewishboy. I can see where you're coming from, I just can't imagine her doing the role, but maybe she could blow us all away. I still think you were right with Debbie Gravitte though. Oh, and I would pee my pants if Anika Noni Rose ever played Reno, I think she'd do a wonderful job with the songs.

I also don't think not being able to visualize/prefer a certain performer for a specific role constitutes "hate."
