Noah Weisberg? Maybe he could play Evelyn in a high school production. And Patti LuPone in a non-singing character role with maybe a dozen lines?

Didn't even think of Kritz! She'd be fab as Reno or Bonnie :)

I've always wanted to see Sutton Foster take a shot at Reno. AG is one of my absolute favorite shows, and I would love to see it back on Broadway. It's so damn FUN.

Sutton doesn't have the sex appeal for Reno.

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

i'll take sutton's legs and sex appeal in "young frankenstein" over patti or meman's looks any day.

(i said looks, not talent, for the record)

Sutton Foster as Reno Sweeney? Ridiculous.
Jewishboy, although there's really no one I rather see as Reno Sweeney than Donna Murphy, I do believe that Debbie Gravitte would be wonderful singing the score; however, given her lack of high profile projects as of late, I doubt that she'd be cast in a major Roundabout revival.

"Some people can thrive and bloom living life in a living room, that's perfect for some people of one hundred and five. But I at least gotta try, when I think of all the sights that I gotta see, all the places I gotta play, all the things that I gotta be at"

to add to logan's post, Frank Rich said this about LuPone in his review of Anything Goes: "By then, most of the crowd is ready to take Ms. LuPone home, and not necessarily to mother."
mmhmm.

I was going to suggest Kritzer as well. Is she old enough? (Or perhaps a better question is does Reno have to be any particular age.)

She seems to me to have both the comic and the vocal chops.

Ouch. Didn't expect my little idea to get torn to shreds. I figured since the notion of Leslie Kritzer was being entertained, Foster would be more than appropriate - she has a great belt, she can tap, she is completely winning AND she's older than Leslie Kritzer. And I'm in love with her, which of course was the main reason behind my idea :) It would be a very different take on Reno, and that's what I want; I don't want to see someone ape LuPone's performance and not do it as well, since there's only one Patti.

I would definitely go to the show regardless of the Reno, though. I just love AG.

I agree that Kritz would be better for Bonnie as she's a fun, flaky corine and Reno can be a score or two older with a lot of sass.

well, I know something that had been commented on during the 87 revival was that Reno is often inappropriately cast as a much older woman. LuPone was, I believe, 38 or so when she played her. so she was still fairly young, and still very vibrant, brassy and funny. I'm not sure how old Leslie Kritzer is, but age oughtn't be something that prevents her from being cast.

Though probably the fact that she did "Leslie Kritzer Is Patti LuPone at Les Mouches" is reason enough for her NOT to do it.

Evidence enough that she can not only do Patti, but an array of others. She wouldn't be Leslie Kritzer is Patti LuPone as Reno Sweeney, she knows how to create a role.

Leslie can play anything from college age to 30's. Again, I think she'd be more cut out for Bonnie's spunkier part. I wouldn't want Reno to be OLD, just older with sass. I think Patti's read very age appropriate.

I think Sutton Foster is very appropriate for Reno. I think her comic timing and overall sexual appeal has grown over the past few years.

Logan, I agree that Kritzer could do it. But I do think it would be setting herself (and the production) up for direct comparisons.

i dont think she'd be a great reno, i just don't understand why people don't think she can play sexy. she's a very quirky, funny person, but she can play sexy. it's called acting.

I like Sutton Foster. I think she's funny and talented and has a wonderful stage presence. I just don't see her as being a good Reno.
