I am so excited.
Though I wanted to see Christina very badly, I know this meant a lot to Charlotte... and she is such a pro...

Maybe its just the bitch in me, but I can't stop laughing about this one. All that gawd awful tacky marketing with Christina's buble gum face, and now news shes not doing it. Ouch, Barry & Fran just pack it up! I know D'Amboise is Great and will do a wonderful job, but wow - this is all just tooooooo unreal.
Michael Reidel - I guess you got yourself a Lunch! Oh I can't WAIT till Weds column now.

yeah.. all this Christina promotion..
Also, gotta cost alot of money to replace the marquee
i can't believe how fvcking insensitive some of you can be.
La Cage that isn't cool
Thank you Marquise!!! See the other Sweet Charity threads for my posting about these "sharks circling a body" posters!
(I don't want to copy and paste it on every thread, though I am tempted to!)
And these are supposed to be broadway muscial "fans" who support the theater.
Don't think of them as sharks - think of them as people who are thrilled to see a wonderful actress/cancer finally get her chance to shine on Broadway. It is definitely a sad break for Christina - but a wonderful opportunity for Charlotte
I went to see "Pentecost" last night (an excersize in tedium) with a friend who has been going to theater for far longer than I have. Here was his take:
"I don't know how Applegate came off...I've never seen her on stage. But I have no dout that D'Amboise can sing and dance CHARITY with ease. The problem with her is that she positively radiates understudydom."
I hope he is mistaken and that I won't be seeing another NEVER GONNA DANCE-like experience. We'll see.
The title of this post is kind of funny. D'Amboise has been "doing Broadway" for nearly twenty-five years.
From what I hear about the way Fran and Barry treat people, I don't feel an ounce of sympathy for them. Sorry for Christina, happy for Charlotte.
Exactly Mister Matt. I saw Charlotte in everything she's done since the 80s. It's not like she hasn't been given an opportunity to play a lead before. Didn't she replace Bebe Neuwirth in Damn Yankees? It's not like people haven't had a chance to take notice of her talent.
Congratulations to her for this opportunity, but I was kind of looking forward to seeing Cristina Applegate.
Let me just say that I am elated that one of the most talented and sweetest women on the Rialto-the lovely and gorgeous Charlotte d'Amboise-will finally get the recognition that she so richly deserves. I'm so happy for her, and I can't wait to see her act the hell out of Charity Hope Valentine.

Here Here MEF! I was going to start a Charlotte D'Amboise love thread but this will do nicely! Congrats CD best of luck at the Tonys!
A Charlotte d'Am love thread is always appreciated. Who doesn't love her?
scenario: Charlotte opens the show, and the critics go NUTS. I'm talking raves all around. Question: Do the Weislers still replace her with Christina once she is better?
I LOVE HER...SHE WAS IN CARRIE!!!!!!!! She originated the somg "Out For Blood." I am really rooting for her to win the Tony now. Watch out Victoria...Charlotte is here!
As much as they say Christina is coming back, I doubt that she will. They're already talking about it like Christina is gone. And you know Charlotte is going to get raves.
I agree...Charlotte will get raves...I'm having trouble though picturing the show as a commercial success....which is sad. I'll be rooting for Charlotte in person Friday night. Hmm..maybe I should bring roses.
Bring roses.
I will reiterate from the other post
I think this thread is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous!!! I mean jeez half of you sound like horribly mean spirited jealous freaks and that is putting it mildly! I mean who cares I can almost hear MUUUHHHHAH's. She is out permanently??? Who knows and I for some reason doubt it.
To me looks like the article took bits and pieces of quotes and put it to their liking. Looking at other articles it does not seem like this is the end of her. Will she be back in before the 21st..who knows? I personally think that as talented as Ms. d'Amboise is...it does not mean Christina is out at all. I have friends who now did not buy tickets due to this news (and most love musicals (not just her) but wanted to see her do this role). My sisters want to sell the tickets to Friday show in Boston. I am not letting them but the thing is..some people really wanted to go to see her and see her sing & dance. So personally I think it could hurt ticket sales a bit regardless of how talented Charlotte d'Amboise is.
I also after reading a few of these posts understand that half of you have not even seen her in it..just maybe read a review...so to say she is stinks is a little bold and premature to stay. I have read some reviews from folks who have seen her who say she is great...I myself was not going to make any comments until I saw her Friday which I can not now. BUT I will tell you how it is truthfully with the new cast.
Now on to the broken foot issue..I have broken my foot and before a dance competition and let me tell you it is not fun!! The time your foot has to remain in a cast is not that long. Mine was 2 ½ weeks. THEN after I had my cast taken off, my leg was so weak I literally collapsed to the ground when I thought I could stand. Your muscles get all icky..haha it is weird let me tell you. THEN I had to stay off of it for an additional 2 weeks with a booty on so I would not cause any little stress fractures to the healing bone. So it is a bit at least a month recovery. Some people push it and get back on the foot (I skimped a little on my healing time) but I was pushing maybe an hour once a week of dancing on it…she would be going back to 8 shows a week dancing at least 2 hours on it. She could screw up her foot. So I think people should not make it into this secret issue of making her stay out longer then she should. I bet she gets back earlier then any expected!

will charlotte be the one to garner a nomination then if one is given to the woman who plays charity? or would it still be christina? why wouldn't they have just pushed the opening date back a little until christina was ready? on a side note, who was the original millie in la jolla before sutton took over?
If Charlotte plays opening night, she will be Tony eligible.
