"....but you may just feel like you need a shower and a cigarette (and a trip to rehab) when you walk out."
I walked out feeling elated, energized, invigorated and wanting to buy tickets again. You make it sound like its a dirty druggie show ... and it is so not.

Posted: 7/20/09 at 12:49pmHere's another vote for HAIR, but do yourself a favor and skip the Stardust diner. I took my cousin there a few months ago when she came in from out of town and besides not being able to hear myself think over the atrocious karaoke stylings of the "Starlight Singers", the food was twice the price and half the portion of what I could have gotten if she would have just let me take her to Renaissance before the show.

I think "atrocious" is a completely unnecessary word to describe the many talented singers who work at the restaurant. If you didn't like the food or found it to be overpriced then that's different (though I don't find the prices to be that out of line with other NYC restaurants). The food is better and cheaper than someplace like Sardi's. But to lay such an insult on the hardworking waitstaff is out of line IMO.
I've been to Ellen's on numerous occasions and not once did I hear an "atrocious" singer nor have I ever received poor service.

My daughter makes it a requirement that we go to Ellen's each trip...the food has always been iffy and pricey and is getting iffier and pricier, but the singing waitstaff is by and large really good and worth the price of admission at least once.
I saw "Hair" last month and having only seen the movie, expected more of a plot...it is really formless...the whole second act is a drug hallucination...but the music is great and the climax is very moving.

The whole second act a hallucination? Not quite.

Thank you. I knew I was not the only one who felt that way.

Posted: 7/20/09 at 3:10pmIt is a drug hallucination but it is also a glimpse into Claude's head and his struggle with going to war or to dodge the draft. I find the second act to be quite complex in it's simplicity (if that makes any sense). Each song is carefully crafted and fit together to bring us to the moving plea for sanity.

Eris0303,
Well than you were there on a better night than we were because the singing that we heard was exactly what I described. TO ME.

Posted: 7/20/09 at 10:31pmCan anyone recommend anything that isn't Hair? I really don't want to see it. Maybe I'll see it some other time or when it tours, but I just don't want to see it in two weeks. No offense to Hair fans, I'm sure it's great.

South Pacific sounds great. haha. I've heard a lot of bad things about 9 to 5. But Stephanie J Block is in it, so that might definitely be an option. Which would be easier to rush?
I'm sorry that I'm not into Hair. I have never seen it, so I can't even say it's bad show. It's probably great. And I'm sure the experience is completely worth it. I came to this board for advice, not to be criticized.

I've always been massively impressed by the singing at Ellen's. The service is good too, but the food itself is so bad. Not bad in a disgusting way, just bad in an "average and bland as humanly possible" way. Sorta like WSS.
Anyways, I will join the Hair love, as it's probably one of the best things on Broadway right now (right up there with South Pacific).
I'll also show a little 9 to 5 support, as I think it's a wildly fun show.

Hair is one of the best things on Bway right now if not the BEST show
N2n is also very good
South Pacific has $20 student rush subject to availablity(sp) and its college only
Hair has lotto & SRO
(sorry for the spelling mistake I'm typed this very fast)

I really like their grilled cheese but it's practically impossible to mess that up.

I believe it's one ticket per person as well. There is, also, a discount code at broadwaybox.com for Tuesday-Thursday.

CS -- a little harsh on the newbie, no? If he doesn't want to see the show, he doesn't want to see the show. That's his perogative...he said nothing harsh or nasty.
Just because you and I think it's a foolish choice, doesn't mean s/he still can't make it. No harm, no foul.
More tix for you and I!
