I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER ON BROADWAY Cancelled

I actually saw this right before it closed and was supposed to move. I have a friend in the cast and went to support her work.

Before going to the play, I knew nothing of Tucker Max and/or his blogs, books and film. I was completely taken by surprise.

It is true that Mr. Max, in his writing, comes off as a rather nasty piece of work. And, I'm not sure admitting this by opening the play with him describing himself as an a$$hole make him a more "realized" person, but it did set the stage and made him more palatable.

With the exception of some production issues (you'd expect this on Off-Off Broadway) and one of the 6 mini playlets, I found, I Hope They Serve Beer on Broadway, completely inappropriate, and hysterically funny. I and the audience were rolling in the aisles.

Yes, its vile - extremely - but, it was a lot of fun to laugh that hard and I confess to enjoying myself immensely. I will also say my friend, and the rest of the cast were great. I am sad to read its not transferring. Perhaps, they will continue to work on the production and it will return.

It really was very funny.

Having seen, I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER ON BROADWAY, I understand why Tucker Max would illicit such a powerful negative reaction. I have never seen him speak in person, but his written self is vile. He's a pig. Yet, because he embraces his nature, and writes so openly about it, it gives you a sort of access to him and his humor.

I was appalled, but amused and I admit to laughing loudly on more than one occasion. Come on, who wouldn't lose it watching explosive diarrhea being projected out of a water blaster by a seen actor representing the action on stage. Or, better yet, a scene in the bathroom of a gay backroom bar with probably said water blaster shooting cum against the bathroom wall. It was gross and disgusting and hysterically funny.

Its grammatically correct and actual does explain what's going on. [correction... I just noticed that lose was spelled loss. I am mistaken. Anyway, I hope the following better explains the set up.]

The scene is Tucker Max's first time having anal sex. The mentioned, water pistol, is a prop used by another actor onstage supporting the narration and narrative. So, at a particular moment during said anal sex...

Does that make it any clearer?

It was beyond gross and over-the-top funny. At least if you can tap into your inner toddler when potty humor was all the rage. There is a little boy - or girl - in all of us which will groan during gross out humor, but will still have that smile, or even smirk.

It really is possible to not find stuff like this funny. Trust me, I feel secondhand embarrassment for the performers stuck trying to make lowbrow jokes like this work.

As far as Tucker Max, he's a sexist, woman-hating little ****and the sooner we all collectively agree to stop acknowledging him, the better.

You got it. The actors are on stage simulating anal sex and there are other actors onstage representing diarrhea - which is shot out of a water gusher (it was explosive diarrhea), and actually also vomit that is poured on the actors by other actors who are holding the props in cups.

Very low brow humor, but I assure you, the audience was laughing.

I find myself in a rather awkward situation: I don't want to be defending Tucker Max. I agree that he is completely inappropriate. I wouldn't just say misogynist, but disrespectful of all people, including himself. He's a narcissist of the worst kind.

All I am saying is that I saw, I HOPE THEY SERVE BEER ON BROADWAY, and I laughed quite a lot and enjoyed my evening.
