re: I <3 London

I was also inspired by this thread to go to the London Transport Museum the next day - I was intrigued by the notion of missing ghostly underground stations.

They have a map on a TV screen that shows the evolution of the Underground over 150 years in the space of about 90 seconds. It's surprising how much of it appears and then disappears. Also comparing the different possible maps with the actual geographical layout was interesting as the two are so different.

On the way out there was a timeline predicting the future: the collapse of the world banking system isn't going to happen until 2022 according to London Transport. Tippex needed now.

There's also a disused underground station at Trafalgar Sq. It was on the Bakerloo Line until the early 80s.

re: I <3 London

I was walking through Leicester Square today, on a not too hot nor too cold summer day, seeing all the tourist after seeing '39 Steps', This thread sprung to mind whilst I was walking, so thought I do another thread for this year, but why? Sam's thread last year was great, so thought I find it and revive it.

All the doom-mongers that slag London off, step aside, I don't just heart London*, I adore it too.

re: I <3 London

Great thread! I also <3 London, sometimes more now than when I lived there, my summer holiday this year is two trips to London where I can drown myself in Theatre, museums and good food/drink. Most people think I'm mad but I'd take that over sand and sea any day!

Hooray for London!

re: I <3 London

So happy to see this thread. I go to London every year and have spent a couple of summers there staying with friends. Coincidentally, two friends of mine from Gillingham arrive today for their first ever visit to Chicago. I can't wait to show them around! Perhaps we'll take in a performance of Billy Elliot with Emily Skinner this week just for fun.

re: I <3 London

Just did six shows in four days:

Wednesday Matinee - Enron
Wednesday Evening - War Horse
Thursday Matinee - Wolfboy
Thursday Evening - Hair
Friday Matinee - Avenue Q
Saturday Evening - Habit of Art

Mostly top price seats, all for £72! Seriously, can I just have a permanent resident in Theatreland? It would be very convinient. And if I get bored (which I doubt), I can spend time doing all the other great things in London!

Anyone fancy a picnic in Green Park?

re: I <3 London

I too love saving up all my money and spending it all in London than a seaside break!

I am going down in a couple of weeks, and have tickets booked for Hair. I wanna get on the day tickets from TKTS for Wicked. But somebody told me they don't sell Wicked there? That wouldn't actually be too bad, because i'd rather see Charity. Failing this, anyone know if they regularly sell Chicago? Many thanks.

re: I <3 London

TKTS doesn't sell Wicked. They have Charity for £31.50 reduced from £56. I think they have top price Chicago reduced to around £30 but I can't remember exactly. Chicago sells quicker than other though.

re: I <3 London

Is £56 the top price for Charity?
#61

re: I <3 London

No Wicked is not sold at TKTS, however if you buy a full price £60 ticket, they will give you a free ticket on a sightseeing tour, not too bad offer and gives you a lot to see in London, best used on a non matinee day though.

The below link will show you what is on sale today.

Another great link for info on discounts.

Great folks on here are coming down to London for there main break.

Avenue Q amazing line up of shows, at a great price, how did you do it?

re: I <3 London

"Is £56 the top price for Charity?"

Ye. Only £40 difference between the most expensive and the cheapest seats!

Now I know who to PM when I get to Chicago. re: I <3 London

"Perhaps we'll take in a performance of Billy Elliot with Emily Skinner this week just for fun."

I'd love to know how Emily Skinner is doing - she looked like she'd be a great Mrs Wilkinson in the photos.

re: I <3 London

Breaking it down:

Enron - £12 (Whatsonstage Offer)
War Horse - £25 (Under 26 rate)
Wolfboy - Free (Entry Pass)
Hair - £20 (Day seat) - Had a aisle seat for this, so ruffling of hair countless times and 'Berger' chilling out on my knee was an added bonus!
Avenue Q - £10 (TKTS Booth)
Habit of Art - £5 (Entry Pass)

Comes to a total of £72. That's cheaper than a top price seat on Broadway!!

re: I <3 London

I'd hate to be a London bust driver. Imagine having to frive a bus with Billy Eliott or something similar on it...

re: I <3 London

I'd actually quite like being a London bust driver - sounds quite titilating. lol
