I Heart London

With all the various threads about all you West Enders going off to New York and LA and wherever you lot go, i thought i'd give London some love! Yeh New York is big, busy, fast and exciting but since i'm not going til February..i'm sticking with London. We have great theatres, our Marquees are amazing compared to Broadway, we do drama and plays like noone else, and our musical scene is picking up after a completely **** year last year.I've been up more and more recently and i can't think of somewhere i'd rather be...

So New York can stick it...Viva La London! :)

I couldn't agree more Sam!
I spent 8 fabulous months working in New York but as much as I adored being there, there wasn't a day when, at some point, I craved for a little bit of London normality.

However also currently in and loving Germany and its small yet AMAZING theatre scene! You should see the marquees here Sam re: I <3 London
However, nothing shall compare to that adrenilin rush I get when walking through the West End prior to seeing something AMAZING!

re: I <3 London

Im with Sam, London theatre marquees are the best, I walk past about 8 or 9 of them every day and I never fail to look up -even at one that has been running 22 years!
London marquees cant be beaten.

In Germany the whole theatre is a marquee for whatever is on stage!

I just feel such a closeness with London, and don't think there's anywhere like it in the world. The mix of the old and new architecture, the people are amazing, and you're garunteed to bump into at least one theatre/tv/film star :)

"However also currently in and loving Germany its small yet AMAZING theatre scene! "

Small? Err, no. Germany theatre scene is not just Stage Entertainment (and two, three other big shows), there are loads of regional theatres which do their own stuff which is just as amazing as SE - I hardly see SE shows these days, there is so much else to see.

But anyway, as someone not from London or even UK, while it is okay for me to go to NY, I much prefer to go to London, it is for me far more amazing as I just love the mix I get there (not just theatre but culture and historical wise too).

Oh i forgot about that MH2...History and Culture! Broadway has no history..there's no getting round that, America was discovered 500 years ago..thats it 500 hundred...it's a joke! I love a bit of history and a story, and London has bucket loads of it!

re: I <3 London

I know.
I just happened to picture all those theatres straight away.
I did a thread on here last year and that had all the theatres in Germany on it.
It has been restarted and I will repost them all soon.

re: I <3 London

I love London. But I have to say that New york is my favourite place on the planet. I'd be there more often than London were it not for the distance - and the expense! (But I've been in love with the US in general since I first went there many many years ago when I did my degree in US history - so I'm a little biased.

Also, though the US does not have the depth of history that we have here, as far as musical theatre is concerned, Broadway is the birthplace of the musical and has a great and colourful history when it comes to musical theatre.

Still, London is probably my third favourite place on the planet, so it's pretty special to me too.

re: I <3 London

I admit I have neglected London these past few years while conducting a love affair with NYC/Broadway, but I think this current trip I'm on will be the last for a while (still love the city, tis wonderful but getting very high maintenance in this current financial climate) re: I <3 London

Plus, recent trips have re-awakened my passion for dear old London Town and currently there actually is far more I want to see in London than on Broadway. Can't wait to get back and visit Priscilla again (natch!) and I have plans to see Oliver, La Cage aux Folles, West End Live and hopefully Sister Act too among others. In addition Michael Ball's last outing in Hairspray falls on my birthday, so that was a must. re: I <3 London

I don't think anything can beat walking through a London park on a sunny spring day. Not to mention the multitude of free attractions, history and beautiful architecture. <3

re: I <3 London

I must agree with you all. New York is incredible and busy and lively and loud and that's why I love it.

However, I do most certainly love me some London. Nowhere in the world can beat London for a good old night out at the theatre. If only a few of the current Broadway crop would cross the pond more often - 9 to 5, Shrek, Next to Normal, the revival of Blithe Spirit etc??

This is funny to me, I am anxiously awaiting Pricilla, Sister Act, ..... to make it over to the USA.
And Billy Elliot took forever to get to NYC.
