I have to say, I saw this production numerous times, and depending on the cast, it was either brilliant or a complete disappointment. More times than not it was outstanding, but I did see it one time in particular where the cast, especially the actor playing the Emcee (who will remain nameless, as I don't want Company fans to jump down my throat), looked tired, bored and were clearly walking through it. And it literally ruined the show. Maybe it was because I had such high expectations from the few other times I'd seen it with stellar casts. But as genius as I felt this Cabaret was, it certanly needed a committed cast to be as magical as it could/should be.
When it worked, it was one of the best nights in the theater I'd had.

Heh, way to be subtle. Because your qualifier really doesn't let anybody figure it out! If you were concerned, you wouldn't have given a clue. I mean, gosh, who ever could it be, out of all of those Company men who played the role?
Honestly, I didn't see him live, so I can't comment or defend him. His looking bored on stage is hardly unheard of in the past, which is unfortunate. And hey, I'm not blindly adoring.
I once heard a really interesting assessment that didn't say he was bored, but that he was doing too much and totally distracting. I thought that was actually really interesting, especially considering that people have such diverse opinions on the role, how it should be played, etc.
Haha, yeah, that's me and Liza in the avatar.
I'll try to see if any of my friends can find their pictures of our costumes. I had four of the kit kat girls and two boys.
