I never even got a chance to see the revival, but I'm excited about seeing Alan Cumming back at Studio 54 for The Three Penny Opera, not to mention Ana Gastyer and Nellie McKay. I still don't know what to think of Cyndi Lauper.
P.S. - LOVE the avatar Alix.
Don't remind me...I'll start crying again.
I can *not* believe it's been two years. I was gonna bump last year's thread, but this works, too.
It was an excellent revival and I was always glad to see it.

OMG, what's wrong with me....I didn't even realize this was the date. And I've been in such a mood for it lately. My friend who saw it 7 times with me was just lamenting over the loss. That was my sanctuary. There will never be anything else like it for me.
Me too. I really don't think anything will ever compare.
I feel like I should kick the love up to page one. :)
I wish I could've seen it .. I was just thinking about how a bunch of the actors I love(Adam, Raul, Norbert, and Alan) have all played Emcee. Not to mention getting randomly into the CD and ... another recording. *cough*

I got the revival cast recording CD for Chanukkah, and... haven't stopped listening to it. It's... I don't really want to say a great show, because, while it is, I don't think it's a great show in the way that other shows are great shows. What I think is so great about it is that there are so many ways to interpret it, and pretty much no matter how you look at it, there's still something you can get out of it. I've actually probably spent more time thinking about the production and trying to interpret it than I've actually spent listening to it.
I really wish I had been able to see the revival production; it seems like there's a whole other side of the show that I'm missing from the CD and from what I've seen of the movie.
I really wish I had gotten the chance to see it. Seems amazing.

I'm really sad it left too.... has it really been two years? I just feel so happy that I can say that Cabaret was my first Broadway show.

I wish I could say I miss it. I never got to see it, but I heard the revivial recording and really wasn't too impressed. I guess that's my punishment for exposing myself to the film version before hearing this (even though I did enjoy the original cast recording). I'm not calling the whole revival recording "bad," but that rendition of the show's title piece just grates on my ears.
I really miss it too. I have the original cast record and original movie record and i listen to them (on my record player) all the time. I also have the revival CD which is amazing as well. Gahhh I might start crying.
wah...it's the day of mourning again. Auf wiedersehen, Cabaret

Um, Bymyside25, The Threepenny Opera closed already.
um, Matt, check the date of the first posting...
I can't believe I missed seeing the show...
I started listening to the Cast Recording for the first time in almost a year and it brought back such amazing memories I had at this show. It still remains my all-time favorite. A completely stunning production.
I forgot what day it was. I can't believe it's been three years. Doesn't feel like that long at all. Company's direction has a lot of moments that really remind me of Mendes' Cabaret. I miss it. It remains somewhere near the top of the list of the best things I've ever seen.
I love me some Raul Esparza -- we're both from South Florida; both our folks know each other; so I'm just saying...
But his Emcee was the WORST I ever had to experience either at Studio 54 or it's earlier home the Henry Miller Theatre (aka The Kit Kat Klub).
For some odd reason, it seems that they allowed him creative license with the role so while the other actors were doing their scenes, he would annoyingly pop-out on the ledges and start snarling or hissing at the actors below on the stage. It distracted immensley and no other actor who played the Emcee ever did this or attempted this.
It just ruined that performance for me along with numerous others who were making comments during intermission about this horrible actor playing the Emcee.
Heh, I have that poster on my wall.
I didn't get to see Raul play the Emcee live, which still bums me out.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I was under the impression that every Emcee was not only supposed to, but allowed (and probably encouraged) to do things like that to some degree -- comment on (mostly through body language) and interact with both the audience and other actors to emphasize his sort of creepy all-knowing narrator position. A lot of commentary through body language, so to speak. I guess Raul just... ran with it differently and attempted a little more than some others? His interpretation was pretty daring, but I can see how too much stuff like that going on in the periphery would get a bit distracting.
