Something must be wrong with me. I have seen over 20 something Broadway Shows and out of everything that I have seen I like Cabaret the least. I evn *gasp* dozed off during the first act.

I have all the cast recordings except for the London one...
And of the recordings I have the revival is my favorite. I also have the Cabaret coffee table book and have worn down part of the jacket cause I opened it so much. I dressed up as the Emcee on Halloween in 2005.
I never even saw the revival but I love it and miss it...I even have a website about the revival, and went nuts when I couldn't remember the original Texas's name. (It's Leenya Rideout.)
Here's my website, just to show how obsessed I am...

I missed the aduitions for Cabaret at Cassidy Theater and cried for hours...
I miss Cabaret.

...I popped in my Cabaret CD for the first time in a long time today. Ironic! (Even if that isn't the proper use of the word 'ironic'.)
Me too, Lost! Played it this morning! I love Alan's version of "If You Can See Her".
I can't even begin to tell you the tremendous suffering I still feel over missing this show (especially while Alan was there; I was obsessed with it I tell you.) caused me... I saw the movie, I loved the movie, but I saw the interviews and promos that and I was a woman possessed.
I often say in jest that my divorce was caused by it in fact-- but there is some real truth there; my ex-husband ignoring the depths of my anguish over it and instead choosing some stupid (to me anyway) Jamaica or Tahiti trip instead...but there is a grain of trust in that-- not the show per se...but it certainly did make painfully clear the dramatic differences between us and our passions. It is now its a mixture of angst, sorrow and regret when I listen to the recording. Although I could not bring myself to buy it until only recently now I listen to it quite often. Anyway...thanks for letting me rant.. obviously I still have issues...
Leenya Rideout is currently playing Jenny in Company on Broadway.
If you miss Cabaret, don't worry. There'll be another, even darker production come along soon enough...this time with even more shock-factor and self-indulgence.

Yuck, that is what I *don't* want around. I have no doubts it may be back in the next 15 years, but I hope the stick to the good old Fosse "less is more" addage. With such a fine score, you would think they can find better direction to enhance that and the story rather than make it the sluttiest show around.
Leenya's not the only Cabaret alum in the Company cast.
One of the many reasons that Company makes me happy.

Cause you get to see Fred Rose again? He was one of 5 cast members who stayed throughout the entire run. Plus you got Heather Laws and Raul too.
I didn't know he was in it for the entire run! Heh. I didn't even know I saw him.
But yeah. Leenya, Heather, Fred, Raúl and Katrina Yaukey, too.

Apparently Leenya was as in for the whole run as well!

Very nice article, browse through some of the other Cabaret ones on the sides. They make for a nostalgic read.
hey, I dressed up as the Emcee for Halloween too!! Mine was in 2004, I think. I did the whole harness costume thing that he wears from "Willkommen" through "Mein Herr" in the revival... What did you do, Emcee4Ever?
On another pointless Cabaret note, this weekend, I was at that Broadway giftshop that was having their going out of business clearance sale, and I found the revival cast recording on a cassette tape. I bought it because it was less than $2, and I thought, why not? I don't even know anyone who owns a cassette player.
If that's you in your avatar, you should definitely post pictures.
Heh, the things you learn!
I did love this production, but I have to say I prefer the current London one, which I think it such a brilliant, bold reworking of the entire show.
I really wish I had gotten to see this production. I fell in love with the revival cast recording. I tried watching the movie, but I wasn't too thrilled with it (am I weird??).

Well Motor, it depends what you are expecting. The film is very subdued compared to subsequent revivals, but does not lack the dangerous tone you'd probably find in the revival. Plus, the film has some pretty incredible choreography and great actors.
Tink-- No you are not weird at all. I saw the movie ages ago indeed just yesterday I was finally worn down by my son and and bought the DVD (for him)..it was lovely, but I always felt it was a bit too glamorous-- and the singing style does not match up with the words coming out....
I vastly prefer Alan and Natasha's nearly-broken, heart-wrenching, gut-churning performances myself. I really wish Sam would make the damn movie already....Alan/Natasha/Ewan how could it miss?
I'd rather see the remake not happen at all than see Zellweger play Sally, as was rumored.
I don't know exactly what I was expecting in the movie, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. I mean I only knew the story from reading synopsis and listening to the CR, and there was stuff in the movie I was not expecting.
The Emcee in the movie kinda freaked me out, lol. I know the part calls for Creepy, but from Alan, I didn't get a creepy feeling, more of a giddy, sexual, fiesty freak, lol!
Zellweger as Sally??? Oh no, I didn't even like her as Roxie!!
Oh you have to be joking...Rene as Sally? I would rather die first...she already killed Bridget Jones? Does she view it as her her mission in life to singlehandedly kill every amazing British character? Now Cameron Diaz has the desperate air and despondent look in her eyes that she tries to hide that might make it work if they were intent on 'star' casting -- but Rene eyes would be even more squinty and annoying on such a physically and emotionally dark set.
But I have to be honest and tell you if Alan was cast as Emcee...I would go see it if say, Starr Jones or someone equally unfit to play Sally.
