I Thought "Bombay" Had A Good Advance???

Playbill.com reporting that "Bombay Dreams" is closing June 13th.
I thought their advance sales number was pretty good, and would keep it open at least a bit longer than this !!!

Guess not !

The New York production isn't doing all that well. It's playing to a mere 75% capacity, which isn't good for a show of it's size and budget.

A "mere" 75% of capacity of the massive Broadway Theater is approximately 1350 people a night. That would be almost sellout at the Imperial, Neil Simon or Shubert Theatres. All told, and considering that Bombay Dreams didn't get very good reviews or a Tony nomination for Best Musical, I'd say they are doing surprisingly well.

re: I Thought 'Bombay' Had A Good Advance???

Bombay Dreams, at its WORST WEEK SOLD 670,000$ in tickets, the 7th highest grossing behind at Wicked, Lion King, Mamma Mia etc...at it's best week it has been close to 800,000 (it's max is 900,000) so I would say all told, the show is doing VERY well indeed. Anyone who would like to say the show is not doing well needs to check the numbers and realize that at their reported nut of 500,000 they could run the show at 70 % capacity and still turn close to a 200,000$ profit...go figure! they might get a good run (against the critics wishes I am sure)

I have no idea if it's any good, but people (i.e. non-reviewers, tourists) apparently love the show, so...
Interesting that no one chats about it much here. Hmmmm...

I saw a commercial for that and mistook it for the music video for The Ketchup Song. And that doesn't say much.

I thought Bombay was closing in London for a face-lift. They announced it was supposed to reopen at a later date similar to what they did with Starlight Express and Witches of Eastwick.

That's exactly what it's doing. It's already recouped and it's closing for revisions (including switching to the Broadway book) and then reopening in a smaller theatre in 2005. Link:
