You have a bright future ahead of you. What a gift!
timote316-Thanks for the well wishes.
Sorry for the threadjack.
Jacob, Best of luck in your recovery. I hate being ill to the point where I can't sing because singing is one of the few things I excel at so I do it alot. Being sick is frustrating. I look forward to hearing you once you are recovered! Especially this is the moment. It's a personal favorite and a standard in my repertoire as well.
Thanks
If you need a good version of the MIDI for TITM MTI has it on their demo version of REHEARSCORE

Is it weird that I spend a lot of time at MTI's website?
"Is it weird that I spend a lot of time at MTI's website?"
No...I do too. But that is because I am also a producer and director.
Heh i just like to learn as much as I can about every show out there.
be sure to also check R&H and Tams-Witmark
Ah yes I've had quite a few of the tams-witmark and R&H librettos in my day. :)
There is one more major site that I am forgetting right now...but it might come to me later.

MTI site is crazy fun. The best are their sampler-cds. SO much fun.
i only listented briefly... much earlier. Very mature and strong. Careful not to sing with too much of you throat closed.
And for the boy who said hes singing TITMoment for Jekyll..... dont do that to yourself. EVERYONE does that song. EVERYONE can do that song and EVERYONE does it the best. As a director, im sure you know that. Ive had more people sing that for me then anything else. Well, other then On My Own, which should go without saying. (Ive actually had a guy sing it using "she" instead of "he".) Contemporary can be okay, but your signature peice shouldnt be something that everyone knows they can do better/have heard better.
good luck boys!
When I auditioned in France for Eponine they wanted something original and creative "pref self-translated."
I did the beginning of Take Me or Leave Me in French. I couldn't find a french versions of it - don't think there is, so I had to translate it.
newsieboy23-Like I said above I am still deciding. TITM is my strongest song however.
I also attended Interlochen Arts Academy for theatre performance and now have a B.F.A. in music theatre. I just want to reiterate what the other student from IAA said about the audition... really focus on your monologues. The head of the department, that makes the admittance decisions is an acting teacher first and foremost. He knows very little about music and when students sing, looks for the moment to moment choices and if the student relies on the lyrics and story of the song, instead of on his/her voice. He loves Sondheim and loathes the "cheesy" musical theatre repetoire. I wouldn't advise you to take Sondheim into an audition, but just so you understand the depth of character he is looking for when a student brings a song to the audition. Good luck... if you get in Interlochen will change your life. It's the best thing that ever happened to me and I will always cherish my friendships and memories made there, not to mention everything I learned.
Im sure it is... and i really do believe you do it GREAT... but many people do. Its a great song, and shows off a lot... but it so overdone... noone appreaciates it. i promise.
Feel free to come sing it for me though, im bored!
newsieboy23-I am taking your advice, but songs like TITM are my strong point. Ballad numbers that use belting and soft melody.
Alright, well im really no help. I should have found you some alternate songs before i posted. Love the kite though. What else do you do?
contemporary-Rent(Roger or Mark ie. halloween/OSG) Scarlet Pimpernel (Percy or Chauvelin) Wicked(though I will not use it for an audition) Assassins (not much there for an audition either)
Slightly older-Les Miz (Valjean or Javert) Phantom (Music of the Night)
Older-Up to any suggestion
I have many more but these are the ones I can think of at 12:48 A.M.
Word. Ill think of something fun. lol
Hey Guys!!
Mercutio121687 - Having listened to your songs, I'm very impressed! You have a great voice! Keep studying and working hard, and you'll definitely go places!:)
My only advice would be to efinitely go for older pieces as well as songs from the more modern shows. Keep in mind that SO many people use songs from Les Mis, Phantom, Rent, Wicked, and the really popular shows, so its great to use different pieces. I hate to always be the one harping on listening to older musicals as well as the new stuff, but having been a stage manager as well as an actress, and having run many auditions for my theatre group, and attended many auditions as well, I can honestly tell you that it's way better to have a unique piece than to be one of eighteen girls who sang "Defying Gravity." (Which has happened, trust me.)
So! That said, here are my suggestions for a few really great older style songs for guys~
"Miracle of Miracles" from Fiddler on the Roof
"I believe in you" from How to succeed...
"My Time of Day" from Guys and Dolls
"Mama, a Rainbow" from Minnie's Boys (good luck finding the sheet music, this show was a flop. But I think the music is in one of the anthology books somewhere)
"Come to me, Bend to me" from Brigadoon
"Dulcinea" from Man of La Mancha
"So Far" originally from Allegro, used in State Fair
"The Colors of my life" from Barnum
"If ever I would leave you" from Camelot
"I promise you a happy ending" from Mack and Mabel
"Second Chance" from Steel Pier
or, if you really want to do more modern sounding pieces....Here are a few lesser-used suggestions:)
"Farewell Good Angel" from Jane Eyre
"Lost in the Wilderness" from Children of Eden
"Forest for the Trees" from The Spitfire Grill
"Eyes that never lie" from Weird Romance
"Never met a man I didn't like" from The Will Rogers Follies
Plus, look into scores that most people dont know, like The Rothschilds, Flora the red menace, Promises Promises, and the entire William Finn library. There are a million amazing songs out there to be found!:) Explore and have fun! Spend a day digging through a library in your area. You'd be surprised how much stuff you can find.:) Best of luck to everyone!:)
K, im done!:)

Always remember William Finn guys. He has about 17 brilliant male solos in each of his shows, and they are mostly unknown by high school actors(other than "I'd Rather be Sailing"). Also, "Is there life after High School" and all of Adam Guettel's work have great male solos. Don't just look to the broadway you find in your local Borders's Showtune CD collection. Go through yahoo.com's list of shows, you can find some great stuff there.
I LOVE "Mama, A Rainbow." It's actually in one of my books. "I believe in you" is probably going to be my upbeat song for college. Of course I do love listening to James Barbour do "Farewell, God Angel" on the Jane Eyre cast recording. THank you very much!
Ps- PB Ent I sent you a PM in response to your post! :)
MagicToDo82-Thanks
I love "I believe in You" and it is the song that is competing with "Kite" for upbeat song.
