Wow, you sound great. It's difficult to believe you're only 17 yrs old. The only thing I can think of is just to audition with an age appropriate piece. Many theatre departments stress the fact that, while souding very mature got you the adult roles you wanted in high-school, in the professsional world they can cast adults to sing like adults. I dont know if that made sense, but this is a quote from Cincinnati Conservatory of Music audition guidelines. "DO select material suitable for youthful performers. Many students hide behind phony elderly voices and mannerisms, the characterizations that won them acclaim in the high-school play. Remember, we want to see who you are.
DO NOT attempt songs obviously created for mature characters ("I'm Still Here," "Send in the Clowns," "Fifty Percent," "Rose's Turn" and almost any Sondheim song.)"
However, you are auditioning for a high school program, so maybe mature is what they want to hear... I'm not sure.. well anyway, hope that helped :)

Posted: 12/3/04 at 2:31pmI'm a baritone (with a horrible cold that is ruining my voice). My files will probably be cheesy midis with my voice on top (thank GOD for cool edit pro) unlike your great files.

You're absolutely horrible! Now I am going to have to cut off my ears and kill myself! Why bring that crap here? Holy man - nick carter could have done a better job!
Next time you do the part, do it right.

I LOVE that song...after only hearing you sing three times I can tell it will be perfect for your voice.
If you can get Cool Edit Pro it is an amazing god-given gift.

Posted: 12/3/04 at 2:49pmIt was (not quite sure if it still is) the program which most producers used when recording their singers. The recording section allows you to lay down multiple tracks, punch into a specific area of a specific track delete portions of tracks, ect. (easy stuff). The mix down area is the real fun part. You can do well over 100 things to your tracks (such as echo, pitch change, flanging(sp?) ect.) to make them sound much more professional.

Posted: 12/3/04 at 2:52pmrock on! i'll have to check that out. what songs are in your standard rep? (and what are you doing for college auditions?) perhaps we could make suggestions for one another.

Posted: 12/3/04 at 2:56pmI'm probably doing "The Kite" from YAGMCB and "This is the Moment" from J&H for my auditions. TITM is my most performed song for auditions (and I am finally getting the chance to play Jekyll/Hyde as well as co-directing the show).

I've listened to all three songs and you sound quite confident with the material. I do not have a trained ear - I am just an avid theatregoer and have seen Les Mis several times both on Broadway and at the West End ( and even once in Paris), but I think your voice compares quite well with the professional stage actors.
Good luck and I hope you eventually make a career in musical theatre or opera ( as you did say you are also classically trained).
Btw, this is the kind of thread that I like to read on BWW - where young people are encouraged to pursue their dreams and the online community share their talent and experience.

Posted: 12/3/04 at 7:09pmJust finished listening to "Bring Him Home", and I thought it was excellent. You have a very rich, cut-throat tone to your voice that suited the character nicely. Although I would suggest you lay off the vibrato in the beginning. Go for a soft head voice, and then build up the song gradually. Nice Job overall though!

Wow, are you sure you aren't like 35? Your voice is so mature. (and sexy, if I do say so myself, but that's not the kind of feedback you were looking for
) But seriously, you have one of the best high school aged voices I have ever heard. If I didn't know you were 17, I would have thought that that was one of the Broadway Val Jeans.
But for some constructive critisim, I agree with the others, Bring Him Home started a little too strong with too much vibrato. Tone it down a bit and it'll be perfect. And I hear strain on the higher notes, but since you said you are a baritone, it's all good.
Good luck with Interlochen! I would kill to go there for the rest of my high school years.
