Aaaahhh all I know is that I'm gonna have my monologues ready for college by the start of the school year because I freak out easily! Where do people recommend starting the monologue search?
Where to start on monologues? Start reading plays that interest you. Much like songs, don't do pieces designed for older people. Also, Monologue books are a good place to start....but always be sure you read the entire play first. (#1 Thing I learned while BOMBING MY IAA audition. why I chose Ipheginea in Aulus - I know thats spelled wrong - I will never know.) It's always good to have the following pieces: Classical/Dramatic, Classical/Comedic, Modern/Dramatic, and Modern/Comedic. Personally, I tend to mine my monologues from plays no one else has ever heard of. Hope this helps~*
After hearing all three clips it sounded like you've been listened to the recordings about 1,000 times. Alot of your inflections, are the same as many past Val Jeans. Don't be afraid to make the song your own, and give a different approach and/or inflections.
Just as in acting, it's often easy to pull off an angry character when singing. For some reason I couldn't play "Bring Him Home" but I could listen to the other two. From what I could hear, you could pull off that angry part very well, but the more sensitive, warm side of your voice needs some work. Again, I didn't get to hear "Bring Him Home" so I can't really be a great judge.
OMG!!!!!!!! You are amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can I marry you? Please? I'm a sucker for men with good voices. :)
Sure why not. We'll go to vegas. Drive through. We should wait til it's legal though.

Oh, pretty please with a cherry on top?!
Wow, you sound very . . . um . . opera. Yes, don't let every note be covered with so much drama. I know a lot of people thats a turn off for because it starts to sound less like music and more like beating consonants. If you want to continue doing musical theatre make sure your vocal coach shows you how to not sing so opera and pushed back in your throat. Nice voice.
yea it sounds a bit pushed back into your throat, make sure you're breathing and supporting like u're supposed to, and even maybe imagine urself sending it all the way to the wall, so that the neighboring room can hear you - don't do this with ur throat, do it with ur breathing. however how u have ur voice right now is reaaaaalllyyyy nice (and yep, would definetely date you), so this is really maybe to try sounding a bit differently.
what's for sure is try to breathe more deeply, the gasping can be bothersome if they're only judging your singing, and remember to support EVERY SINGLE NOTE in between the hard ones, u dont want to let the easy ones get away either.
ooo here's an audition tip song for you: some enchanted evening, its really pretty and i think you'll sound well with it, i dunno what everyone else thinks, maybe something from anything goes too

Monologues: If there is a thespian festival in the area it is always good to go there, as they will have tons of wonderful plays with monologues.
Drama Bookshop, if you are able to visit in NY, is the only perfect way to find a monologue, as you can spend a few hours browsing through books for monologues.
The best idea I can give you is to but a bunch of the "Humana Festival" play anthologies, as there are some phenomenal monologues in each one of the books.
PS- Magic To do- what wonderfully interesting song choices! Exactly right ones too.
sounds really good to me. and i'm pretty picky. lol
Idina's BIGGEST Fan
You're not that picky....you like Idina...
LOL....j/k I just wanted to say that.
Perhaps next time I should just record something on my own rather than send something from a show. One reason for the covering was to give the effect of aging for the sake of the character. So if i ever need advice or feedback, it seems like this is the place to go! Everyone should send stuff because it would be awesome to hear everyone else who posts here. Thanks for the feedback i really appreciate it!
You did succeed at sounding older.
When I do my own stuff I'll let ya know!
It's becoming overdone slightly, but "Anthem" from Chess is a really great song as well. The entire score of that show is full of great songs for both men and women. Also, another suggestion is to look to the Rodgers and Hammerstein shows that were not insanely popular - Me an Juliet, Allegro, and Pipe Dream mainly. There are some hidden jewels in those shows. ~*

I don't really know exactly what to say..because...well...when playing such an older role people our age tend to put on a voice sometimes...if you get what I mean...but from what I listened to you sounded great to me. being a singer myself the only critical thing I have to say about ur voice is at times it did sound like you were pushing...and sometimes your voice didn't consistant through the whole song(but that just couild have been the recording paired with my bad speakers on my computers lol) but you sound very good to me...I'd like to hear you sing something younger...I guess you could say...more for your age...to really decide what I think. But you sound great...and Les Miz is my favorite show by the way so if you sucked I'd say so hahhaha.

Wow. I'm also a junior in high school, but I definetly dont sound that good. I would agree with everyone else about the vibrato, but it really wasnt that bad. Keep up the good work.
Hey! I went to IAA for Theatre Arts 2 yrs ago. I'm a 1st year in college now at the University of Michigan for Musical Theatre. Feel free to e-mail me with questions or anything.
It's a crazy place!
I can't get it to play ahhh. This will be a dumb question but I'm useless with technology. What do I click on??
You'd click on either down load or "lo fi play" or "hi fi play". :)
