Lord, okay, so...I searched the message boards and nothing came up about this. I know it's ultra-delayed and all, seeing as how the Tonys were months ago, BUT...
When Wicked performed at the Tonys--a great performance, I must say--I noticed that at the end, after Elphaba has defied gravity and all, Glinda is supposed to sing "I hope you're happy..." under Elphaba--but I didn't hear it.
And then, suddenly, I didn't see Cheno! What happened?
I watched the tape over again a couple times to see if maybe I just missed it, but I definitely didn't hear the line or see her on stage at the very end...
Anyone have an answer?
it almost seemed to me that she sang it but idina, the band, and chorus just over powered her. her mic most of not of been loud enough. Updated On: 8/22/04 at 05:15 PM

i don't think that she sang it. i'm not sure why though.
That performance was, in my opinion, wretched. Idina was so much better when I saw her in July.

She was crying. It was ok in my opinion. She's much better at the Gershwin, much!! It was an unfamiliar face and she knew she was the favorite this year and knew the show was a favorite and had won all the other awards and was probably really nervous which is understandable. She's never been a lead role like that or on that stage before. The 1996 awards (Rent) were at the Majestic Theatre, a much smaller theatre.
I realize that. I don't blame her for the bad performance. I know that she is capable of much better. She was just really stressed at the Tonys. In any case, I don't think it was a good performance.
I agree....her voice was shakey. And no, Cheo didn't sing that part. I was waiting for it also. Played it back several times (Even in different surround modes) It wasn't there.
Idina was definitely quite different on the Tonys than normally. I wouldn't call her performance bad, given all the pressure and so on and so on. It was just usually better. Anyone who hadn't heard/seen her otherwise probably wouldn't have known the difference.
And what about Cheno not singing? Was that a silent protest? Still mad about that "slap"?
I haven't seent he show at the Gershwin, yet, and I quite honestly, didn''t really know the show until after I watched the Tonys, but it made me a huge supporter of it. Even close to saying it's my favorite on right now. I thought their performance was increadable, and to be honest a lot of the Tonys performances weren't great in my opinion.
