I got the email today that I was approved to be a seatfiller for this year's Tony Awards. I'm so excited! I can't wait to see who I end sitting near. 
Is anyone else here a seatfiller this year?

Posted: 5/28/08 at 6:41pmI don't think they use a company. I just called the production office and got the email address to send in all my information. I do have a question though if someone has done this before. I requested that I do this with a guest. However, the email that I got has no mention of my guest since it's a generic message. Do I just assume that my guest is approved too?

Could someone please explain to me how this works? Why don't they just sell every seat they know they don't need, then have a cancellation line if they have extras downstairs?
I need to get on this for next year!

Posted: 5/28/08 at 8:57pmIt's more for filling up seats when people go up to present or perform than for empty seats, so camera shots don't show any empty seats.

I was just afraid I was WAY off the track, but I think I had it figured all along. Thanks, again scott68.

You'll spend most of your time standing. If you do sit down, you'll probably be in the seat for anywhere from 5 seconds to maybe 5 minutes and then you will go to the back of a long line of seatfillers and wait to make your way to the front of the line. Scott68 is correct. You are filling in seats within camera range when someone gets up to present, perform or go to the bathroom. TooDarnHot, I'm not sure if you were kidding but even walking in with a sign would immediately get the seatfiller thrown out. You aren't allowed to socialize with any of the attendees. The nice thing is that during the last part of the show you probably will get a seat and be able to stay there because as people get up to go backstage they tend not to come back if the show is coming to an end. It's very cool to be up that close to everything and sit among all the celebrities but it is a lot of standing and running around.
If you asked for a plus one and nothing was confirmed, I would write back to the e-mail to confirm. This is the first year they have allowed that. I was a little suprised but it seems they are allowing it though I would confirm.

Posted: 5/29/08 at 12:19amYou could always be lucky. The year I did it (06) I was seated during the pre-show and did not have to get up once the entire night. I was on an aisle, and the two people across the aisle from me won as did the person sitting directly in front of me so I was shown on camera quite a few times as well. It was pretty amazing.
