I need a Monday Night Show

Hey all-

Just found out today that work is sending me to NYC Jan 17th and 18th. Tuesday I am going to see Woman on the Verge, but between all the Jan closings and lack of Monday shows I can't find another show.
Any suggestions for a show that Monday night. I prefer a musical and off-Broadway is fine.

Thanks

Monday is the mandatory day off for all members of Actors' Equity Association, so you will never find any professional shows open or rehearsing on Mondays, day or evening.

Pickings for musicals are going to be slim on Mondays for a while, long running shows, like Chicago, Mamma Mia, Phantom and Off B'way The Fantastiks have shows on Monday.

There are a few new plays opening off B'way, Blood from a Stone has a Monday eve performance. I see Newsical the Musical does as well, not sure how it is, one is maybe someone can advise.

Not true at all- they're required to have one day off per week, but it doesn't matter what day. Some shows are dark Wednesday and Sunday.

And check out The Fantasticks if you haven't seen it yet.

Looks like Ave Q has a show that night. I already saw Ave Q with the OBC and really enjoyed it. Some of the people traveling with me may enjoy it too, although I would rather see something new.

Not sure if it's what you're looking for, but Colin Quinn's Long Story Short has a Monday night show. I thought it was pretty hilarious.

had the same problem back when i was in NYC in September - none of the seasons' new shows had even started in previews yet and Off Broadway had yet to begin its new season - I was left with a Monday night wanting to go to theater but there was nothing available (well, besides the tourist traps - which i have already seen at one point or another)

At least when I was in NYC a few weeks ago, there were quite a few options on a Monday...including Driving Miss Daisy

Well if that is true, then were are a LOT of shows breaking the rules, then!

In fact, the above statement is incorrect. As noted by another user earlier, it is required for AEA members to have one day off a week. Most shows tend to choose Monday as the day off because it's the day of the week with the slowest sales. However, other shows choose to perform on Monday to take advantage of the people in the same situation as you -- they're here on a Monday and want to take in a show.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Don't worry about the shows closing- Playbill updates this kind of stuff every few weeks.
(Same with their lotto and rush pages.)
