I need help convincing my parents...spring awakening
#1I need help convincing my parents...spring awakening
Posted: 7/20/08 at 4:25pmOkay, so Spring Awakening is coming to my hometown in January. My family already bought season tickets to see all the shows that are coming, but they are still wary of spring awakening. They don't really understand. By that time i will be 2 months away from turning 17. Do you think that I am old enough? And how can I convince my parents to see reason?

Considerring Skylar Astin's 8 year old sister saw it (With her parents covering her head during the act one finale and such), you can...
tell them that, and you'll have them down. Also, I'd rate it about PG-13, and even if it were R, you'd be able to go.

Posted: 7/20/08 at 4:45pmhaha yes... they don't seem to realize that i am going off to college in 2 years and I can handle it. My parents are a little overprotective because I am the oldest...ugg

tell them that this is the show you really want to see and you can handle things... lol i'm sure it would be awkward but emphasize that you REALLY want to go see it.
good luck. :)

Posted: 7/20/08 at 6:29pmbeing.jeremiah...I didn't know that existed. Legallywicked, I suggest you have them watch that video also. I think it would be great for your parents to hear the opinions of other parents and I noticed they chose people from different parts of the United States to speak. Good luck! It is a wonderful show. I saw it off-Broadway and loved it! If you see it, come back and tell us what you, and your parents, though about it!!!

Tell them that it's adult but not vulgar or obscene (yes, there is profanity but I am unsure if the tour will have the nudity). I would imagine they realize that they were your age once and would reconsider. Hopefully you have earned their trust and could discuss this!
Good luck.

God, I am glad my parents aren't ridiculously over protective.
Anyways, if they aren't convinced after that link being.jeremiah posted, I don't know what to say.

Posted: 7/20/08 at 10:48pmYou're sixteen. What do your parents have to do with this? If you want to see it, just go. You're plenty old enough and have doubtless heard & seen more explicit material already.

Tell you're parents to get the **** over it, stop being douche bags, and let you see a god damned musical.
AND remind them...they did HAVE TO F*CK to make you....

Posted: 7/21/08 at 1:18amGhostlight, Legallywicked is 16 and the parents have everything to do with it. They bought the season tickets. And no, I don't agree that if Legally wants to go without permissoin she should go. She will be living with her parents until she is 18. it is called respect. If she is under her parents' roof, that is something she must do. Respect her parents. The video on the website, in my opinion, is the best way to go.

You've clearly never been Asian.

Posted: 7/21/08 at 11:08amYeah, unfortunately I go to a Catholic School, and my parents don't realize everything that still goes on there. And for the record, I'm not even going to consider sneaking out and going without their permission

My parents wouldn't let me buy the recording of Woodstock when it came out, due to the nudity on the album cover. It took years for me to get to see the film, lol...but then I wasn't allowed to wear bell bottoms either. When I bought a pair, my dad literally threw me out (alcoholic tirade). They both eventually came around and mellowed.
Good luck seeing the show, I hope they give in. I wasn't fond of Spring Awakening, thinking it depressing but...oh my God...I just turned into my dad!
