Because this year I skipped my junior prom to make the four hour drive down to Chicago to see Wicked. I had a couple groups that I planned to go with but they all fell through so I said "screw it!' Now, you may think that could just qualify me as Wicked geek, but that's not the case (er....well, it wasn't at the time). It was my first time seeing the show, I knew nothing about it besides the songs from the OBCR I had bought shortly before I went. I just went because I LOVE theatre and wanted to do something fun that night! My “geekness” has only grown since then!
Oh, and it was totally worth it!

I own 100+ cast recordings.
Whenever a question comes up somewhat relating the theater, my friends ask me.
My ringtone is a showtune (currently SOL, fyi).
I can link almost any phrase to a showtune.
When watching TV, I instinctually switch to the Showtunes channel during commercials.
I have framed Playbills and window cards on my walls.
Most everything on my desk somehow relates to theater.
Half of the movies I own are musicals.
My MP3 Player has 800 songs - 75-80% of them showtunes.
I have two keychains: drama masks and The Producers door.
Listing all this stuff makes me realize just how much of a theater geek I am. Oh well, could be worse.
Because I find myself singing theater ditties to my kitties with new lyrics:
"I Love Kitty" (to the melody of "I Feel Pretty")
"There Is Nothing Like A Cat"
"Pretty Kitty" ("Pretty Woman")
"I Loves You Kitty, Don't Ever Leave Me" ("I Loves You Porgy")
"Little Cat" ("Little Lamb")
This is getting embarrassing...enuf already!
LMAO I think that might just make you a crazy cat person. But that's cute that you love your kitty so much.
I officially qualify as a theatre geek because...
90% of the music I listen to is show music
For the past ten years, I've been to Playbill.com at least once a day (OCD? Maybe.)
I have a Playbill collection of over 400 shows
I'm basically a walking musical theater encyclopedia
I can't really be happy unless I'm currently or about to be involved in a show
I wish I could be as big a theatre geek as some of you, but LA's theatre scene is still an up-and-coming one.
I guess one geeky thing is that soemtimes I spend more waking hours in my theatre @ school than I do at home.

theatre geek, I am one, all I can talk about is theater, no matter what conversation Im having it all ends up back at the theater, i love every aspect of it, all my money goes either to buying show tickets, merchandise, or cast recordings, if i dont make it into a production I dont get mad and through a hissy, i get involved technically so I can still be involved somehow. Ive been singing adn dancing along to musicals and going to them since i was a wee las and im never gonna stop!
because i write on this and live vicariously thru those of you in the city :) no, i teach also - and try so hard to convert all of my students into the obsessed geek that i am. sometimes i win :)
If I find myself singing in the shower, it will always be a showtune.
I can name the character that Donna Murphy played in Birds of Paradise - an Off-Broadway musical that ran for about a month in 1987.
- while walking the dog I 'practice' tricky songs like 'I'm not Getting Married Today', 'Ladies Who Lunch' and 'Fast' (from 'Zanna Don't) even though I will never, ever get on a stage.
- While on a business trip in Detroit, I drove to Pittsburgh to see Carol Channing in 'Hello, Dolly!'
- I have an Ethel Merman avitar (or does that just make me an old queen?)
Some of my qualifications:
Most of my everyday wardrobe consists of show t-shirts.
100% of the music on my mp3 player are showtunes.
I sometimes hang around TKTS to kill the time before a show starts and consult the tourists on what to see.
I refer to myself as a "Tracy" b/c I'm a big girl.
I know the characters or performers being spoofed at FB before they are announced.
I start singing "it couldn't please me more" when I see pineapples at the market.

Because I can name the highest note that almost every character on Broadway belts.
I am a Broadway/musical theatre geek because I actually can belt the highest note that almost every character on Broadway belts. The scary part is that I'm a man.
Because I've already read 2/3 of The Coast of Utopia even though it hasn't been produced on this continent yet? (And I'm starting the last part in a few days once I get all the characters straight again.)
Because I did a project for a music history class in which I compared Sweeney Todd's harmonic structure to that of Tristan und Isolde?
Because my avatar is a picture of Cherry Jones?
I have 3 playlists on my iPod:
Cast Recordings
Soundtracks

As soon as I uploaded it all, I actually said "Wow, I'm a geek!"

During the Rent movie trailer, I basically scared the audience out of the theater.
On the way home from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I explained to my friends the entire history of Broadway (they fell asleep).
My friend and I saw DRS, and we were both sad that there were speakers on the ceiling instead of the Time Dragon from Wicked.
And lastly...I'm on Broadwayworld.com right now! Yay!

Fun thread!
My mom: "Sarah, all of your itunes are from shows...Oh, becauses that's all you listen to." For my roomie card, they ask what type of music I like and I put "showtunes!"
I think I was one of three people (at that particular show) who laughed at Spamalot's "Another hundred people just contracted the plague..."
Random phrases often spark showtunes in my head. As opposed to go to a movie, my dad and I much prefer a Free Showtunes in the Park night
A reoccurring topic of my friends always tended to revert back to the school show.
I talk about Broadway actors liek they're buddies - NOT in a stalkerish way, I don't THINK we're buddies. "Oh look it's Sherie!" "Oh if we miss Joanna Ill be so upset!"
I never had a boyband phase. I say let preteens have their boybands, I have my Broadway stars. My NYC theatre filled trip was one of the greatest times of the year. I did Cappies - a critics program. People may have spent their weekends partying, Id rather review a high school show. And Im always happiest on a stage high. Whether it's after having been in a show, or having seen one
Jo: I'm from Norway, and I'm flying TO Australia
Another reason for me:
I adore and appreciate the movie "Connie and Carla" because of its tremendous use of showtunes.
Also, how many amongst us has either taken off from work (via taking a sick day, vacation day, whatever) or school to see a show or concert? *Raises hand*
-My chemistry teacher said to me: "You know, I was watching 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire' the other day and I thought to myself that if I ever went on it I'd put you down as a phone a friend in case I had any questions about theater".
-Hey, and didn't we ALL scare out the entire audience in the theater when we saw the Rent trailer.. I'm with you on that one.
-I'm 17 and have already dedicated my life to theater. I base college searches not only on the theater department but on closeness to professional theaters in the area and to bway. ^_^.
I'll notice the clock at 7:30 and think "half hour" or at 2:00 or 8:00 and think "going up". Does anyone else ever do that?
I have an English class that goes on around 2 so every weds, can you guess what I'm thinking of.

I stayed up to 12:37 to see the Wicked performance last night then woke up at 7:00 to watch the cast of Lennon on Today.
All of my CD's are cast albums
I have to check up on 4 Broadway websites daily (broadway world, broadway.com, playbill.com, & Lennonthemusical.com)
-I also scared the daylights...out...of...Oh, that's right! There was no one else in the theater when my friends and I saw the Rent trailer. We screamed, and squeed, and sang along, and catcalled Anthony Rapp (er, that may have just been me).
-I tend to talk of Broadway stars as if we're on a first name basis. So much so, that my family doesn't know their last names...only their resumes
I.E. Oh, be quiet. I'll listening to Anthony!
My Brother: Anthony?
Me: Yeah, Anthony..from Rent...and YAGMCB...
My Brother: Oh that guy. The geek with the glasses.
Me: Yessiree! Anthony Rapp!
My Brother: The guy from Adventures in Babysitting, right?
Me: Yes, very good.
-I am a Creative Writing major and the Musical Theatre majors ask me about shows. (switch my major? If it was possible)
-My brother (a lovely guy really) has been weaned from calling Kristen Chenoweth, "Short and Squeaky".
-My brother taped Wicked on Leno for me
-My Biology teacher has a classroom full of musical theatre majors yet I was the only one who knew the name of the big, evil plant from Little Shop of Horrors...(I even did the Audrey squeak on the word two and held up two fingers. "What is it?" "An Audrey 2")
-If someone posts the same news five minutes later, I simply don't read since I already know. Maybe I'll re-direct them. But I won't yell at them or chew them out.
-I was the only one who wanted to watch School of Rock in my class and I convinced the rest of them by standing up and explaining (for about 2 minutes) exactly why I love Adam Pascal.
-Someone told me in May that there was going to be a film version of Rent, I knew in January.
-Despite the fact that I have been into theatre since December (Scandalous isn't it?), I have already become determined to be the first Creative Writing major to get a part in a Musical Theatre production!
I only listen to showtunes in my car.
(I'm a closet theatre geek though - I never play my music when my friends are driving around with me.)
