I was going to see Brooklyn, but...

the shills have actually turned me away from the show. Anyone else?
Idina: Somehow I got myself to the stage, came out at the end of the show, and I had some kind of closure.
Some guy: You looked great!

yeah...that's actually what I should have said too. However, had I not seen Eden go on as Elphaba and just found out about the show from this board, I probably would not go. eww.

Go see it.

My rule is that I try to see everything especially Broadway musicals. Even stuff I know will stink--Saturday Night Fever comes to mind.

Just don't go for a few weeks. I am sure it is being tinkered with.

I stopped reading the Brooklyn threads a long while ago. Shortly after I stopped believing them.

Whether you see a show or not shouldn't be determined by anyone else's opinion, posts or "annoyance" factor of advertising, so-called shilling or whatnot.

But you can only be bombarded with it so much before you just lose all interest completely, am I right?

Are they shills? Or simply overexcited fans? For me, the latter is more of a problem, because if the posts annoy me, I wonder if I have anything in common with the fans/intended audience for the show.

They won't turn me away from a show, but they won't make me want to see it if I'm not inclined. Thus far, nothing about Brooklyn has really grabbed me, other than that it's a new/original musical.

I don't go see everything (or almost everything), so yeah, I have to be convinced to want to go. And, in that case, opinions, etc., are important.

I wouldn't decide to see or not see a show, based on this or another Board, too many agendas, lets face it, it is only is Theatre wackos who are here in the first place.

Go see it, I did and loved it, have my tixs for Whooppi, La Cage, Mario Cantone and All shook up, waiting for Dame Edna and the beach boy thing. Te;lls you the kind of shows I like. Also loved Altar Boyz, Bare and NEWSical

With or without shills, I wouldn't go unless I got free tickets or really great seats for a "really great" cheap cheap price.

I won't spend money on it now. We are allowed to avoid certain enterprises if we don't get along with their employees.

The shills are a turnoff, no matter how wrong it is to let them influence your opinion. I can't get excited about Brooklyn now, hearing about it reminds me too much of the annoying posts about it here.

I don't let what anyone says determine what show I want to see. As a theatre lover I see everything. I happened to get a comp ticket to see Brooklyn last week, and thought it really had it's shining moments. It needs alot of work, but that is the purpose of previews! I enjoyed the music except for a few of Edens screeching notes, and thought it was a enjoyable,fun evening of theatre:)

I don't think a group of people should discourage you from doing anything - yes there is hype, there is total "shilling" going on, but that is to be expected when you throw in a name like Eden Espinosa to a pop/teen girl-ish musical. Nevertheless, I would never ever let anyone get to me enough to not go see a show if I am interested in it - I'm going next weekend and I'm totally excited all the same, despite the annoying shilling around here.

Craig- While I agree, no one likes to be annoyed and in this case I'm afraid their advertisting tactics did them more harm than good. It's one thing for fans to get excited about a show and I'm all for that. It's another thing to continue to create screen names and post ridiculously. People are not stupid, this board is very smart.

I never let reviews sway me in any way. If I want to see something, I go see it. Sometimes, I do not agree with what they say and I like it.
