Honestly, i walked into the seating of the fox and i wa surprised at how big the set was. I was dissapointed with legally blonde and other shows thag had scaled down sets.
When it started, i had a little trouble understanding what was being said. The music was louder than the cast. i thought th cast was amazing. I wasnt very familar with this show but tickets were half off and i heard good reviews. I heard people during intermission saying "eh its alright" i honestly fell in love with this show :) i would deff see the show again. And id love to see it in nyc cuz im sure its better right?
The show was funny and cute. It focused on something real.
Whats so different between the tour and broadway?
I am so glad you enjoyed it. No, just because a show is playing in New York, it does not mean it has to be better then its tour. I have no idea about the current cast so i can not judge.
Physically... there is nothing different from the tour and the Broadway production. Both productions are visually identical, so the tour hasn't been slated one bit. The tour's cast is sensational. They've only been playing their roles in front of a paying public for less than a month (their first public performance was October 27, 2009 in Tampa, FL), so as expected... they'll be getting better as the weeks go on. On a personal note, I think the orchestra is a tad better than the current Broadway orchestra. Their energy and flavor is amazing.
Having seen the tour twice already, I did also notice that the orchestra does sound too loud in the rear of the theatre. I sat in the 6th row center orchestra for my first time and acoustics were perfect -- the actors and the orchestra were perfectly mixed... you can hear every lyric and every spoken word. The 2nd time I saw the show was in the mid-mezzanine and you couldn't really hear the lyrics clearly as mentioned in the other post. The orchestra did drown-out the singing. Things were fine for the dialogue scenes. This reminds me of RENT -- unless you sat in great seats, the acoustics were HORRIBLE. The music drowned out everything in RENT if you sat in the rear orchestra or rear mezzanine
Its sounds like the tour has the same issues as the Broadway production. I couldn't understand a word when Usnavi sang/rapped and the music was too loud so many of the lyrics were lost. I think people get swept up in the very basic story lines that are easy to follow and the dancing. But pretty much I felt like, "take it or leave it".
Thanks for the update. Looking forward to the tour when it makes it to Orlando in March.
