Sara Bareilles is doing a benefit concert for the Pace Women’s Justice Center at The Capitol Theater in Port Chester NY on Thursday 10/6. It was sold out but Ticketmaster just opened up some good seats. Fingers crossed she sings Moments in the Woods.

This will undoubtedly be my go-to recording of the score. I enjoy hearing so many of the details in the orchestration.
However, at the risk of being an ingrate, I'm a bit disappointed that it mostly follows the same program as the original cast recording. This new recording would have been a great opportunity to capture some bits of the score that haven't been recorded in the past. In particular, I would have loved to hear the Baker's reprise of "Maybe They're Magic." It's so brief, but it does establish the Baker's apprehension about being a father (which pays off in the finale), and it conveys the Baker's adoption of his wife's philosophy for acquiring the objects.
Ah well, this recording is still superb, and I'm happy to have it at all.

How representative is the recording of Patina's performance on stage? I love about 50% of what she does in the recording and am lukewarm about the same amount.

I'd say I enjoyed Patina Miller more in person than on the album. I don't know what it is about her recording on the album but something feels off to me (though it could just be because I'm used to Bernadette on a recorded version). fwiw I also felt Julia Lester went broader (and I already thought she seemed to be playing bigger on Broadway than at City Center).
It really struck me how emotive Sara came through. I don't know if it's the different texture of her voice compared to everyone else but I thought she really shone, and especially in how dynamic her voice was in each different song. Brian D'arcy James by contrast felt a little flat on the recording, though his No More was still quite good (and I did enjoy him a lot in person as well.

I would say she definitely sounded better on stage! When I saw the show in August, she was the standout imo and sounded incredible. Not sure that comes across nearly as much in the recording.

Did anyone else order a physical copy and get deformed packaging? I'm really disappointed by the quality of the sleeve.

Good to know it’s not just my copy. It’s very poorly designed. The CD and booklet just fall out when you open it.
