Saw the brilliant production of The Seagull tonight, ending its limited run this weekend.
The usher mentioned that it was announced (to the staff) last week that the Walter Kerr will be home for Irena's Vow's Broadway run.
Can anyone confirm this? Or maybe the official word will be released soon.

UPDATE [12/22/08]: Yes, it's confirmed.

The official website for IRENA'S VOW (www.irenasvow.com) now says 'On Broadway in Spring 2009 at the Walter Kerr Theatre 219 West 48th Street ' on the bottom of the homepage, so it looks like the show will indeed play The Kerr.
I would expect a press release this week now that THE SEAGULL has closed.
Brilliant! I love Tovah!

Interesting. It def. is a season for plays. I can't wait to see it. I love the Kerr. Such a beautifully intimate theater.
I guess "Nerds" is no longer coming in this season?

In this economy, opening NERDS would be riskier than trying to win a Broadway lottery and then sell the tickets for $200 apiece.
Although, with Gypsy closing, it'll put Emma Zaks out of a job.
I love Tovah as a blonde.
Maybe she'll get her much overdue Tony Award this time around.

i still cant believe Tovah didnt win for Golda's Balcony. Such a brilliant performance.
I also couldnt help but wonder what Tovah would do with Mrs. Weston in AugustOsage. Maybe rename them the Weinbergs and revive it in ten years?
anyway ive heard great things about Irenas Vow and hope Tovah tears it up. The Kerr is a great choice.

Can all these plays succeed this spring? Which ones will turn out to be another American Buffalo?

Winter/Spring 2008-2009:
The American Plan
Hedda Gabler
33 Variations
Impressionism
reasons to be pretty
Mary Stuart
The Philanthropist
Accent on Youth
Waiting for Godot
Compared to Winter/Spring 2007-2008:
The 39 Steps
November
Come Back Little Sheba
Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
Macbeth
The Country Girl
Thurgood
Dangerous Liaisons
Boeing-Boeing
Top Girls
Last year had 1 more play, Barcelona. Do some research before the snide remarks.
I'll have to see this to rid my mind of the memory of her playing Hello Dolly at the Papermill.

haha, first of all, it was not intended to be a snide comment, but a serious question given the state of the economy. Furthermore, the plays in 07/08 did not all open up within the first 5 months of the year.
You are also missing, "Exit the King", "Irena's Vow", "God of Carnage", and "Blithe Spirit". Which would make it three more plays than last year. Do some research before you post "incorrect" information. Ouch!

Touche, but Exit the King and God of Carnage haven't been officially confirmed yet, just bandied about.
Still, there's no need for the nastiness that you wished on this crop of plays. Comparing them to the misguided production of AMERICAN BUFFALO.
tsk tsk.
(PS: Perhaps you'd like to email IBDB to tell them to update their records).

I don't wish any nastiness on these plays. Just posing the question that in this fragile economic environment, I'm curious how all of these plays opening in the same relative period of time will succeed.
Exit and God are both happening.
I echo Smaxie's statement.
I'm not sure about CARNAGE, but EXIT THE KING is taking The Barrymore after SPEED-THE-PLOW.
God will be at the Jacobs.

I can barely contain my excitement for "Exit The King!"
