Musicianship IS NOT dead. I just had a lovely 3 day cruise aboard it to Antigua and it was wonderful. The food was good and it sounded great.
Meanwhile, this discussion was just taken by ambulance to Mt. Sinai hospital. It's hanging by a thread hoping not to be completely beaten to death
...says another person posting in it.
I think this thread did exactly what good threads do: It went beyond the initial topic to encompass larger issues.
Many years ago I went to a preview, it was dreadful, by chance in the pub afterwards I met the director. He asked how I liked the play and I told him honestly what I thought. I told him what was wrong and what I would do. The actors weren't together or working as a team, each one seemed to want to be a lead. He looked horrified. I went to the opening night and it was a different production and received rave reviews. I learned later that the day after I spoke to him, he had the cast in at 9am the day after and worked all day and through all the points I had raised. So, all I am saying is, that Morgan may have a valid point.

Only if her point is that musicianship and acting are dead.
Hermajesty, tell the truth: If it were a preview of "End of the Rainbow" instead of this show, would you be saying the same thing?
I'm glad that the director took the advice of a complete stranger and used said advice to drastically alter his show.
Did you look him in the eye and say "You ****ed up this production, and just demonstrate how musicianship and acting are dead. I am horrified."?
No, I imagine.
Reg, I am puzzled why posters keep referring to EOTR. Yes I really like that production but what has that to do with Morgan's criticism of Into The Woods
The play I criticised and gave advice to the director was at least twenty years ago, long before EOTR
Kad, I wasn't a complete stranger which just goes to show, one shouldn't assume....it makes an ASS..out of You and Me....ass u me
You're puzzled?
I'm guessing it's because for months that's all you posted about, and if anyone disagreed with your assessment of the show, you had conniption fits.
But that's just a guess.
Months? I don't think so. yes and posters are disagreeing with me on this too
Your story of helping a show find its feet through your constructive criticism, hermajesty, was quite moving. I read it once in the voice of James Lipton, and then again in the voice of Kathie Lee Gifford. Both times it left me in tears.
Now please explain to us what part of "Question: HOW can you f-ck up "into the woods"?? I fear musicianship is dead in musical theatre. And acting, for that matter. #horrified" is constructive criticism?
because it must have been a **** up for Morgan to criticise. She is allowed her opinion. It was probably a massive **** up for all we know....get it?
He looked horrified.
#horrified
I was a professional actor/director for 40 years, I do know what I am talking about but some teenagers/novices on here love to provoke
To what extent is Morgan James being given a "wide berth" by her Broadway peers? Is she a "pariah"? I'm just curious if there is any long term damage to her prospects. from RC in Laredo, Texas
^Really, hermajesty? Heck, that just shows to go ya.
For all the time you've been posting here -- and I hope you don't take this the wrong way -- I honestly thought you were around 14 or 15.
shut it
And some of the people provoking you aren't teens or novices.
What was that thing you said about assuming?
Oh man. Hahaha.
To the ones with the persecution complexes, no, I wasn't taking a jab at you nor any specific group of fans. Get over yourselves.
My Oh My, I'm not sure who you're talking to (or even what you're talking about), but since I see only one post from you, five pages ago, whoever it is is probably over it.
Yeah, but are they over themselves?
