Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Carmen Cusack and absolutely no one of this planet can play Alice like she does, but if the producers of bright star are still hoping to keep the show running Jennifer Nettles would make a wonderful stunt cast replacement.

Would probably get a sales boost but the show would suffer for it considering Cusack is the best think about it

The plug will soon be pulled on this one......What is next for The Cort?  I enjoyed it but it is one of those shows that is impossible to find an audience.

A more realistic stunt casting would be putting Steve Martin in as Daddy Cane. It's not gonna happen, though, and the show is sadly not long for this world.

Also, as a huge fan of the production, I would be devastated to see them replace Cusack, and would prefer they just close it. That part is hers and had they wanted to stunt cast it, they would have done so from the get go. The producers know the show's future at this point.

Not to mention, her Tony nomination in this role is the only one of their nominations that has actually gained momentum (not to say that she's going to win), so it wouldn't make much sense to fire her so early into the show's run for stunt casting. I agree with TFMH18, if any stunt casting needs to happen here, it's Steve Martin getting thrown into the show.

I doubt it would ever happen (I think it would definitely close before we saw a celebrity as Alice) but if they replaced Carmen with a celebrity I would never see the show again.

Likewise. I literally would not return to the show if they replaced Cusack with a star. This show had TWO out of town tryouts and was in development long before that, with Cusack having been a part of it from the very first reading. They had plenty of opportunities to replace her with a big name and did not, because they didn't think anyone could bring the part to life as well as she does. They aren't going to do so now.

Absolutely not. Cusack "is" the show.

Carmen's performance seems to be the only thing that people on here praise unanimously, whether they liked the show or not. Because of that, I actually think stunt casting the show would repel more people than it would attract. Like someone else said, it would make much more sense to cast Steve Martin than to get rid of Carmen.

I also doubt that Sugarland fans and Broadway patrons are 1 in the same.

They can't replace Cusack, she's the best part of the show. When it does close, the Cort needs a makeover ASAP.
