They unkindly showed rehearsal footage of Ms. Idina -- who otherwise does have wonderful pitch -- hitting a clinker on "It's MEEEEEEEEE," its wince-making sourness pronounced by the quick segue to the same moment onstage at the Gershwin, when she hit it squarely. Unfortunat, but when you play it back on tape, and hear it, it's startling. I must say, it's not really fair to a performer to use rehearsal flaws thusly.

Which is ridiculous...but at the same time, there were enough shills at the stagedoor when I was there that I was ready to smash my head against the barricade.

Posted: 10/23/04 at 12:51pmI saw Wicked in April. Ms Menzel did not disappoint. I will say that I purposly went on a Friday night (I was flying in from Denver) because I read an interview with her where she said her voice hits it stride somewhere around Thurs/Fri. So I wanted to hear her at what she feels is her best. She knocked most songs out of the box! No Good Deed suprised me live. Loved it. She did struggle a bit for that last note in Defying Gravity but hit it. It was a bit rough though. All in all, I love her voice but I do have a question. I have been reading here about her flat notes and have heard a few of them myself. I did not see her in RENT. Did she have this same problem while in RENT? Just curious.

I think Idina Menzel is an amazing singer, but definitely not the best Elphie ever. I am so glad i got to see Eden Espinosa do the part, and she was better than Idina. I also heard Shoshana Bean went on last night and is better than both of them.
I didnt think the clip of her "it's meeee" was that bad. I thought she sounded good....im just grateful they didn't show her Tony performance. Dont get me wrong though, i love Idina and i can't wait to see her movie coming out.

Geri- It's sad for me to think that you thought Eden was better than Idina. I heard Shosh, and she sounded awesome, i was sooooo impressed, but she's def. not better.
