I've heard rumors about Emily Skinner being scouted to replace Scott once she leaves.
But to Idina, I really think this would be a terrible case of miscasting.

I honestly think that Mary Testa or Emily Skinner would do amazing... but for some really odd reason i would think the Beth Leavel would do well... No idea why, but i could picture it. Anybody else?

I think Harvey Fierstein would make a great Ursula - he'd be much more like the cartoon version.

I seriously thought that a lot too back before Mermaid opened. I was upset that they were letting a thin woman play the role when they should have gone with a big man in drag. Harvey came to mind, of course, as did Gary Beach. I guess my imagination is limited to men who have done drag on Broadway recently, but really any actor in that vein would have been wonderful, I think. I still haven't bothered to see this show, but that definitely would not be the case if there was a sea he-witch.

I'd never heard Emily Skinner before, but theres clips on The Site That Shall Not Be Named. She sounds AMAZING! I'm rooting for that one.

er... no to Idina as Ursula lots. She was great as Maureen and okay as Elphaba (Shoshana Bean and Julia Murney = better) but no as Ursula. I haven't seen the show yet, but I've heard the music and Megan Mullally could belt the **** out of anything you give her... again, though, not a replacement...
**I am VERY aware that Sherie Rene Scott is Ursula, trust me, I was just saying that Megan Mullally COULD belt anything you give her, so she WOULD be able to sing the part well, if Sherie Rene Scott wasn't in it. I know I'm new and all, but geez...**

Emily Skinner would be great. I thought the reason they originally cast Sherie was to allow for the "Vanessa" transformation. Once I found out that "Vanessa" wasn't in this version of Mermaid, I thought they should cast someone like Mary Bond Davis. Sherie did a great job making that role work for her, but to me she isn't that role.

I got from a VERY reliable source that Dini Martini (Gotta love Lakezurich) will play Ariel and Taye Diggs will play King Triton. A Father/Daughter sex scene will be added. :)

Emily Skinner's shady history with Disney is what kept her from being cast as Ursula in the first place after doing all of the workshop and developmental material for the role.
