People can say whatever they want. If they offered her enough money to play MARK in a London revival of Rent, you can bet your ass she'd jump.
i was there on Saturday night, and it was one of the most amazing nights in the theatre I have experienced. no messing around by the cast, ad-libs, or pranks, but a lot of visible and palpable emotion from Idina, Helen, and the rest of the cast. Helen could barely sing during "For Good" - she spoke most of her lines through the tears that were running down her face.
Wheher you love Idina or not, her performance on her last night was amazing - and her voice was in great form. She stuck to the script and to the libretto, but held the last few notes of "Defy Gravity" for an extra couple of beats, obviously enjoying her last fly on the cherry picker. And her "No Good Deed" was the best I have ever heard (from her, or from anyone else).
Helen gave a great, detailed, heartfelt, and touching speech at the curtain call. It's clear she'll be missed by everyone at the Apollo Victoria.
Idina was visibly moved throughout the show, and was in tears at the curtain.
Aw, I was practically in tears just reading that post, dchestnutny. I would have given any amount of money to be there.
I agree Raviola, like Bulgaria or Romania maybe......
What's that supposed to mean?
Helen's curtain call speech about Idina was really wonderful, and it actually endeared her to me.
I have seen Helen's performance twice, and although she was significantly stronger in the part the second time around (which was Saturday night), I still felt she was the weakest of the five Glindas I have seen.
Her curtain call speech on Saturdayt, though, was definitely heartfelt and touching. Someone posted on that other site, so Raviolisun, you can now "be there secondhand". Take a look:

Helen seems like SUCH an incredible person. and damnnnnn can she give an amazing curtain call speech! seriously, I've NEVER heard any other speech that beautiful. I love that she talked about idina as a person and not just within wicked. That makes it so special. And the whole diva thing. So incredible <3

"I heard she's going to try to have a baby after this."
In all seriousness, I wonder if she and Taye want kids.
That was a beautiful speech.

they've both mentioned it a LOT actually. My guess is its probably just a matter of finding time- both their careers have been going fairly well recently (even despite daybreak, tayes still doing well) and unfortunately they'd kinda have to give them up if they wanted to have babies I'd think. So yeah. But, its their personal life and their decision to make :)
Wow another incredibly mature thread *eye roll* And I have serious doubts about this Maureen in Rent rumor, she has said herself that after the movie, she is ready to close that chapter of her life. And about Wicked, good for her, she went back for six months, opened a new show, kicked some major butt, and earned a crap load of money. Oh, and finally got closure with that show too. I agree with the person on page 2 who was talking about a Jewish girl from Long Island really making it in life. Good for her! She's worked hard and she deserves it. Her album is next on her list, it's due out in May and she has said in an interview that she wants to go back to London to promote it. That may be where the going back to London rumor came from...
Hey, it's a lot more mature than other Idina threads have been.
Did she really make a couple of million (pounds or dollars) for reprising her role for three months in London? Is that the most an actress has been paid for a Broadway/West End role?
I believe she got paid $40,000 a week.

Yes, the most for West End.
album due in may? god please let this be picked up by mainstreamers. I'm tired of people asking who my favorie singer is, me replying "idina menzel" and them looking at me with an expression that clearly says "Who the hell is that?"
Hoooold up. Where did we hear that her album was due out in May? It's a nice thought, but I believe she just started working on it over the summer, maybe late spring, and she certainly couldn't have gotten too much work done in London. It usually takes quite some time to put together an album, and even though it's only January, May seems a little soon especially if the girl is planning on taking a breather.
Not that I don't want that album out NOW.
I believe she got paid $40,000 a week.
*jaw drops*
Thats $160,000 a month!
Is that normal?! Further investigation is needed.
She said in one of the London press articles that she hopes the album will be released in May. I think it's rather tentative, though.

Well, you're in the wrong fandom, then! It'll always be this way for a musical theatre fan. Get used to it.

Haha, Yep. Not that I don't like it.
I just double checked, and she got $30,000 a week. Still the most for any woman on the West End.
I thought she did amazing in her last show. She is a very emotional actor to begin with but everything, everything about her last performance was amplified. I am happy she got her last show and I am happy she went out with a bang because, really, she sounded fantastic. I am happy she is done, moving on and working on other things. I have been waiting for this new album since it was first announced and then Wicked put a delay on that. I doubt it will be out by May and even May is too late for me.

I had the pleasue of seeing Idina in Aida and in Wicked, she leaves nothing on the stage. She puts her heart and soul into her performance and everyone in the theatre can feel it. I thank her and wish her the best.
I just wanna know if she was given a gift of a red track suit. ( apparently now the farewell gift to all the B way Elphabas)
I really hope not. She wasn't given one on stage anyways, from what I can tell. The US can keep that particular tradition.
