I was hoping it would be someone good, but I was not expecting this! And for San Francisco to be one of her stops! I was like bleh we probably won't be on the list, but we are. I just told my mom we're going. I am not going to miss a chance to see Idina Live.
" The money she's being paid should elevaiate your surprise."
She hardly needs the money. She's performing a world concert tour this summer, not to mention still raking in "Let It Go" residuals. She's doing this because she wants to and, yes, it is thrilling.
Obviously, she really is dedicated to the show. And she really will be well paid. The two things are not mutually exclusive. Good for her, good for the audiences. In truth, though I liked the show a lot, particularly most of the score, I cannot imagine it selling without her.

How much is Menzel being paid?

I actually strongly doubt that she is receiving residuals for "Let It Go." In fact, I would challenge anyone on here who thinks she is making millions of dollars a year, or even hundreds of thousands, from FROZEN. She was not a household name before FROZEN, which means she had limited bargaining power in contract negotiations. If I told you how much (or little) Fontana and Groff received for their roles in FROZEN, you probably wouldn't believe me.
Being familiar with the standard Disney royalties structure, I would also be surprised if the Lopez's are making bank on that song alone; DPD royalties (digital purchases/sales) are not lucrative for songwriters and the stream plays/downloads even less.
They did not expect the movie or that song to blow up the way it has. Disney, however, is unexpectedly but happily rolling in the money. Trust me... Part of this decision is financially motivated. She'll get a percentage of the box office and benefit richly from it.

Maybe James Snyder will join too. that would be great.
^ This.
Lizza hit it square on the nose and, considering her choices of cities, I imagine she'll be working the Hollywood rounds in an effort to land a pilot and/or a movie role.
I do believe that part of her decision to continue with If/Then had something to do with her faith in this material. That said, she knows her worth among theater crowds and realizes that this show would be a tough sell without her. I am quite certain this will be a very lucrative project for Ms. Menzel. And good for her.
Apologies for the spelling error...was typing from my phone rather quickly (and after having a Manhattan or two...)
I agree with the recent posts. I believe this decision was certainly twofold. She will benefit very well financially from the tour while continuing to support a project she clearly loves.
I'm guessing that with Frozen 2 and the TV show (should it materialize) she won't be extending past the announced dates, which are all western sites.
Now that people beyond those interested in theater certainly know Idina, this will also help elevate the profile of live theater. She's been all over the talk shows and newspapers this week!
Wonderful news for all the Idina fans who couldn't make it out to NYC during it's run. I'd be slightly surprised if a few more of the Broadway cast don't join her.

I wonder just how fast these will sell out while under membership requirements first (since her website says "currently only available to season subscribers")? I'm curious if people will actually subscribe to those tour venues just for this instead of waiting for single tickets to go on sale later, but I'm not sure how that works.
Yup I'm sure we can expect to see at least a couple others from the original cast joining her. From what I've seen on social media, they all miss the show/each other terribly.
I remember LaChanze posted a photo of she and Idina at the wrap party that said something along the lines of "bye for now" and I thought even then that she may have been alluding to her involvement in the tour, and now I'm even more inclined to believe so.
I wanted to comment on the LaChanze tour speculation without getting too much into anyone's personal life. But I know part of the reason LaChanze was so inclined to accept her role in If/Then was because it allowed her to balance work and motherhood since it wasn't the lead role. Her daughters are high school aged I believe, so I don't know if she'd be wanting to leave home with a tour. We'll see though!
But now that Idina is doing it, it's certainly possible some others will join.

Yes, I remember that interview and subsequent discussion. I'm still doubtful about other cast members joining the tour for similar reasons. Though Anthony Rapp joining may increase particular interest (I have no idea if he has other projects right now).

I hope her voice doesn't go the route of Alice when she toured with N2N
Never really been a fan of hers , but I will grab a ticket when this plays LA. She might just be better in person.
Unfortunately for me, she will not be appearing in Charlotte NC - oh well.

Well, considering Idina did the role for what was basically 18 months (if we include the out of town tryout), I imagine her voice will hold up just fine for the 3 months.

Fact: Idina has made six figures from Frozen 1. And will probably make ten fold that from Frozen 2.
LaChanze has always come off, based on her public comments, as very firmly "New York based." I don't know the woman personally, but she's stated this numerous times in interviews. This is probably why she doesn't do a lot of television work. I would be surprised if she toured, but perhaps she could be persuaded to do the LA run?
"Fact: Idina has made six figures from Frozen 1. And will probably make ten fold that from Frozen 2."
Exactly my point. Even if she didn't make a fortune from the first film, a second is confirmed and it will surely secure her spot in the unfathomably rich sector of show biz. So in other words, whatever this tour is paying her in comparison to that, is probably minuscule and her motives for doing the tour are, above all else, based upon her commitment to the material

I can't speak for other venues, but out of curiosity I checked SHN for the SF dates since they're only on sale to subscribers right now, and subscribing is pretty expensive, so I'm not sure that will really be a factor.
Jackie Burns will be doing the rest of the tour.
^ Jackie is fantastic as Elzabeth.
So Happy for Jackie, she is amazing! Kinda wish Jackie would do the full tour but Idina being in it is totally understandable.
