Performers don't generally get royalties for cast recordings. As a "star' she might have negotiated royalties the OBC and could potentially negotiate something even higher for an OLC, but a second cast recording wouldn't sell nearly the volume of the OBC and might actually cut into the profit she would potentially make on the OBC.

So long story short - maybe a little? But probably not enough to make a second recording a clause of her contract.

The producers would probably stand to make more money if they waited to record the show with Menzel's replacement. Particularly if they were able to get a big name.

I really hope they do wait, I really like Idina on the OBCR but it would be good to have someone else singing on it and would make for more sense financially.

In case anyone's interested - reliable contacts have informed me that Stephan Gately (ex Boyzone, Irish boy band) has been cast as Boq. Perfect for the role IMHO, he was amazing in the w/end as Joseph

You would think that they more permanant Elphaba would get a recording and not Idina...again. I don;t think people will take kindly to Kendra going to London just because they need someone who is from there.

Still no confirmation of Stephen Gately, BUT

Adam Garcia has been confirmed as the London Fiyero. Whoot.

I wasn't knocking your source Claire 2141 - I too have heard that Stephen Gately's been cast (oh how I hope he hasn't), but the Ozmopolitan newletter has gone around this morning with the Adam Garcia news... They're claiming more exciting casting news coming soon... They really are doing it on a drip drip basis to build excitment.

No I wasn't incinuating you were...

Stephen as Boq, well as an ex Boyzone fan girl I'm delighted. Did you see him in Joseph and Chitty? He was very good, he's far better than that nancy Ronan Keating...plus I think would work well as Boq. Has the look down anyway.

As for the drips and drabs...well adds to the excitement doesn't it?

I'm an ex-Boyzone girl myself, but I just can't get excited about him.

Admittedly I didn't see him in Chitty (I saw Richard O'Brien - awesome - and Lionel Blair *shudders*) or Joseph (I saw Philip Scofield when I was small and H-from-Steps *has blocked out the memory*) but I'd just rather a British star as Menzel and Garcia aren't exactly the home grown talent that we've been hoping for (and I think were promised), though I'm excited to see Menzel and Garcia is mighty fine!

I know he's not British but Stephen is a British star...as in he was famous here. Not exactly home grown but developed here...I'm not sure I'm making sense but I know what I mean.

It's just my inner 11 year old coming out of me I guess. I saw him in Chitty and while he was no where near as good as Richard O'Brian or Paul O'Grady I was impressed with him. Joseph he was brilliant, though I have little to compare him to.

I agree though we were promised a British cast...

Who have you heard for Nessa? I heard Emma Williams and that WOULD make me cry as she should be Glinda. Well I'm not the casting people but she should.

She would be perfect. Yes I heard the Jane rumour too. As much as I liked her in G&Ds, I want a British principle member of the cast to be from here.

I agree that Stephen would be good in this role. It suits him fine and he always did have the biggest voice in that band

for the love of god...who told you that "Glinda's" was correct english? it's one thing when people write "CD's" - that's not correct, but there is a semi-logical reason people tend to think it is...but "Glinda" is just another word...i don't understand what is going on in the world...what has happened to education??? anybody?
