Dottie, I'm with you on the "endless and useless threads" thing, I really am. The amount of Wicked fanaticism on this site is CRAZY. But if y'all are so exasperated by the threads, why even look at them?

Lorings Guy, you make a very good point and up until now I have blocked the "posters" who start the Wicked threads because they were too excessive. This is one of the few times that I actually posted in one of these threads though.
Hey Dottie!

I bash WICKED because it's yet another sign of Broadway lowering the bar on quality and creativity. I also bash BROOKLYN, DRACULA, BOMBAY DREAMS, MAMMA MIA!, among others for the same reason. It's okay for people to love WICKED...but as you mature and see more, your tastes will change. It's like enjoying a fine wine...who would want to switch to ripple?
Good Lord the thread is turning again. Weren't we JUST saying that excessiveness (good or bad) is annoying? Now we've begun to bash Wicked and defnd Wicked all over again.
FYI I loved Wicked despite some glaring flaws. And 1) I'm not a shill and 2) I'm not 13 years old. I'm a musical theatre performer who has seen quite a number of shows, so it's not an issue of maturity.
What I heard from a very reliable source was that Idina was raised twice the height in DEFYING GRAVITY at the Tonys then she is at the Gershwin to give it even more of a climactic look so it was too hard to hear the notes and she got flustered since she couldnt hear the orchestra that she had never previously worked with.
I was at the Tony's - and from the moment she began singing, well...it was worse than on TV...
As for raising her higher - i dunno - but it's probably due to the fact that Radio City Music Hall is A LOT bigger than the Gershwin and a lot of the power behind the scene was lost...
Wicked is a really popular show. Some peop[le like it, some don't. That's just how it goes. Excessive threads about the same thing are annoying. Did I notice Idina's voice cracking at the Tonys? No. Could it have happened? Yes. She is in fact human.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

Idina can crack of she wants to because she is GOD and I will never notice, or I do, I will deny it, when she does something horribly during a performance and I will ignore rudness because she's GOD but if I say that then she'll run in terror from the Gerswin everynight and i'll have to run twice as fast down broadway chasing her car and bawling while screaming her name if i want my 500th autogrpah and 400th picture after my 300th show.

BG2- As amusing as that was, that's not what I meant at all. I meant exactly what I said.

I really like Idina, but no matter how much you love her or hate her, her performance at the Tony's was completely off-key and horrendous. Just a fact. Off-key. SOunded bad.

Actually, shut up is used somewhat excessively by the younger generation today. It can be used in a variety of contexts. For example if someone has really hot shoes one might say to them "wow, who did you have to killl to buy those" and the person might respond "no one, they were free" than it would be appropriate to say "shut up!" -in the context, shut up means "oh my god, or I can't believe it" However, I believe in the context you're referring to you would like people to literally close their mouth... which I will do right now.
p.s. There is always an excuse for Menzel p.p.s Sorry if that sounded patronizing

I hope she sees a room with a piano player and a bunch of scary middle-aged queens sitting behind a table, talking to each other as she auditions!!"
