I believe there was a topic awhile ago about idina gasping during some performances of defying gravity.... actually if you listen closely on the cd when she goes "so if you care to find me look to the western sky, as someone told me lately everyone deserves a chance to fly, and then she "gasps" i was just wondering if you caught that check it out.

Idina sure is a gasper. That is just the way she sings...she does it in most, if not all, performances.

Well did you hear Idina at the Tony Awards and did you just now hear Eden? There you go.

Yes, but the vast majority of singers manage to hit their notes (and more difficult ones, too) without sounding asthmatic. The girl has a big voice, but her breath control isn't ideal.

Don't get me wrong i love Idina she has a great vocal range and is a great singer, i was just listening and noticed that "flaw" so to speak.

she doesn't always do it. i have live recordings of her not gasping. then in other ones she does. she gasped really bad on the tony's tho but then again they like doubled the tempo of defying gravity for the tony's

I have seen Wicked twice and I didn't notice any major gasping. There was hardly any, as a matter of fact, and I was listening for it.

lets get this straight idina menzel and eden each have their own sounds , there own personel qualities they are diffrent yes but some singers have diffrent training than others and eden and idina each have their own gorgoeus and origanal sound and thats what makes them so good .......AM I RIGHT?

When I sing along to "Defying Gravity" it's kind of hard not to gasp. I think because the moment is so big, it feels like you're in the moment and there is a sense of urgency. So, it doesn't bother me during "Defying Gravity."

I agree, Quibbler. I sort of like the gasp there. It does project a sense of urgency. I think it makes it more exciting. If they wanted to, it probably would have been quite simple to edit it out. Maybe they wanted it there.

wicked4life51-couldn't have said it better my self, even though I have never heard eden sing

luvWicked416, Eden wasn't her understudy, she was her stand-by. And I agree with wicked4life. They both do their own thing.

why is it always when there is a jab at Idina, it's always Eden is so much better? I wish people would stop comparing them.

Idina has been in the business for what now? 8 years? And has PLENTY of experience?

Eden has been around for a year, and no where near as much experience as Idina.

Eden, is definetly not supieor or as experienced a performer as Idina yet.

Top five reasons why Eden is better than Idina:
1. Damn, I love her voice. There is no comparison listen to Idina sounding all asthmatic and gruff and then listen to Eden float on the notes(go to that mouse website or whatever where they used to have videoclips of her singing:wow!)
2. She's younger. Alright Idina has been in the biz for 8 years and is all jadded and shi*t now 'cause she knows what's what, but as someone to be a fan of it's just cooler when they're younger. OBVIOUSLY with exceptions and blah blah blah. But think about it-didn't you look up to the seniors when you were a freshman?
3. She's prettier, Idina is so strong-featured it is hard to look at her sometimes.
4. "Brooklyn in the Blood" is a cooler slogan than "Defy Gravity"-even though the show might not be.
5. Idina is rumored to be a bit*h and a half, while Eden is still new enough to be a sweetheart.
-Yes this post is deliberately inflammatory so respond away!!!!

Why the hell are we comparing two TOTALLY different talents? sure they both have played Elphaba. So? Both Gwen Verdon and Charlotte D'amboise have played Roxie Hart. Do we compare them? No! they are different. And i for one think we should drop this subject because it is just leading in a direction into nowhere!

Thats just SAD, someone had to make a top 5 reason list why Eden is better than Idina..what are we 5 years old?

I've seen/heard Idina's Defying Gravity, and heard Edens.

Idina's is CLEARY MUUUCCCH better. Eden obviously sings the song with more range. But definetly lacks the emotion and style Idina uses. Eden sounds like a young girl belting the tune. Idina sings the song with more maturity, more edge, more emotion, and more depth... which is cleary more of Elphie's character. When you hear Eden singing Elphaba's songs, it just sounds like a young girl belting them out. Idina sings them with character.
