What's the highest note that Idina belts in Wicked? (most likely in Defying Gravity)
Does she also have a good soprano range?

I expected more. I know it's a lot, but I can sing that note and I'm 16... not that I do it all the time... anyways. ok.
why high?

she is definately not a soprano.. though when she was in RENT and all the duets with 'Joanne' she took the upper note and it sounded pretty good. I think she can sing soprano but is definately more comfortable in an alto range-- this is totaly random but also I always cringe while listening to her sing 'take me or leave me', not because its bad, but because the way she sang it made it sound like she was really hurting her voice...

i love the song "take me or leave me" but i cringe too!
btw... i just went downstairs and went up the scale belting, i can't always reach an F like she can.

You're 16. Stop trying to sing like her, your voice isn't mature enough and you're most likely going to hurt yourself.
Did I hear someone's vocal chord just *pop*?
Just Kidding!
aww I love "Take me or leave me". I can't really hear anything wrong with it, maybe it's because I love it too much to hear any faults!
Dee can hit fairly high notes...I heard from one guy who was at NYU with her, and he saw her do a scene from WSS and she NAILED those mega-high notes in Tonight! =D
Don't belt an F.
My chorus teacher majored in musical theatre, and just today he brought up the fact that though it sounds like Idina is belitng she's not; she's using a head/chest mix. I thought that was interesting.
Alright I thought we agreed a while ago to stop with the acronyms!!??
What is WSS?
my friend has the music book for wicked and im pretty sure the highest note she sings is a high E in defying gravity
and yeah she always took the higher harmonys in her duets with johanne but its not like she was singing in head voice...she was deinately belting those parts...shes definately an alto...not that it makes much of a difference cause im a soprano and can belt as high as defying gravity goes

It's an F. And it's a mix, cause it isn't a sustained note.

whats and its a mix cause it isnt a sustained note supposed to mean? i mean yeah by the end of the song shes totally mixing but that doesnt mean she doesnt belt notes that arent being sustained before then

I didnt mean thats the onyl reason--i think it might be hard for her to just plain out hit it. Plus it sounds like a mix--a good mix at that.
the last notes do...like the ahh at the end...ill give you that...but i dont think its hard for her to just flat out belt the notes...if trained properly theyre really not that difficult (id know...my friend and i made it our summer goal to be able to belt defying gravity perfectly and we drfinately accoplished...it with flying colors i might add)

~I'm not trying to sing like Idina. I've never even sung "Defying Gravity" and hadn't even heard the complete song until someone sent it to me online (sorry wicked fanatics). I had heard Idina's voice once before on the RENT album, and that's all. I think she's very talented, but I'm not looking to be like anyone but myself. I was just wondering about the range for knowledge of what it takes to sing "Defying Gravity".
To those of you who are saying Idina isn't a soprano...she most certainly is a soprano. She has a very wide range though, and rarely uses her high head voice but I know that she can at LEAST go to a C two octaves above middle C.
thats not that big a deal...so can i...i can go higher than that and one of my friends can go even higher than that...but im saying shes an alto cause she hits some pretty low notes...like the last one in im not that girl...if anything shes maybe like a soprano 2 or mezzo or something
HIgh C is in the soprano range. And just because she can sing low does not make her an alto...I'm a soprano one and I have about the same range...I can hit those deep notes too. I'm sure she can go even higher than the high C as well, considering she hits the note so easily, I was just saying that's the highest note that I've checked on that I've heard her hit.
But I'm positive she's a high soprano, a lot of the classification of a females voice when they have these ranges may have to do with their tone, and she has a more flihgty soprano tone to her voice. Not to mention the fact that she has said in a few interviews that she was clasically trained when she was younger and she was always a high sporano in choirs at school.
what did she hit the high c in?
I'm pretty sure it was "The Life of the Party" in from the The Wild Party, but I don't think she did it on the cd. I think it was in her Ars Nova concert and the key was brought up a little. On the cd its a B flat....Either that or I have my songs mixed up.
