Please, no bashing or being mean. I actually want to have an intelligent conversation, not an "Idina is the bestest ever" session.
Who here has/has heard Idina's cds? What do you guys think? Personally, it was hard for me to get used to Here (I got that one first) because I was used to Idina as Elphaba, not Idina as Idina, if that makes sense. Once I got used to it though, I really liked it. I also really enjoy Still I Can't Be Still, with the exception of a couple of songs. I think her lyrics are amazing. Some of them seem so random, but they actually make a lot of sense if you think about it.
Thoughts? Opinions?
I am not sure which board this belongs on, so sorry if this is the wrong one...
I have them both. I like Here a lot better.... Still I Can't Be Still is really fun, but surprisingly edgy, and not as easy to listen to at all. I love Broadway actors' solo music (as I'm sure you can tell) because I think they're just extraordinarily talented people.

Which is the one with like 5 songs?
So expensive for 5 songs....but I guess Idina's worth it....support the arts and that malarchy (sp?)
::goes off to buy Idina CDs::
Still I Can't Be Still- is an incredible album. Creative and fresh.
Here- is a nice smooth accoustic short album.
Both are very enjoyable.

i have them both, too. i really love them both, i couldn't pick one. it depends what kind of mood i'm in. i looove all acoustic music, but i love rock-ish music too. i blast planet z when i'm in a good mood and once upon a time when i'm in a bad one.
and i ditto emcee - i heart broadway actors' solo music.
EDIT - major typos that idk how i missed...

as you can see by my icon, I really really love Still! I think the lyrics are quirky, witty, and totally original. I love the edginess ,and the fact that theres not a single "mainstream" artist who makes music like that. I do love Here because Idinas voice is so lovely, but it always makes me sad...I think because I got it at the Gershwin and I miss NYC every timne I listen to that cd But yes, Idna needs to make another FULL ce very soon!!

I'd love if she did a Bway Cd...you know, sing the classics with her own twsit....I love that....
I have Here and its a great CD. It's alot softer then what I'm used to which is a nice alternative and they are very well done. I do wish there was one song on there that really had her belting but its still a great CD nonetheless. Can't seem to find Still, I Can't Be Still though..

cdbaby.com -- sometimes you have to wait for it to come back in stock, but if you add your name to their list they'll email you.
^^ that's where i got here cause the gershwin was sold out of them...
Try Colony Records. If you don't live in NYC, you can call and order it. That's what I did. It is a bit expensive, but worth it.
What are everyone's favorite songs? I LOVE Minuet, Straw into Gold (those lyrics are out if this world!), Follow if You Lead, Here, You'd be Surprised,etc.etc. can't just pick one! Actually, I really love all the songs on Here, but So Beautiful is my least favorite. All of the Above is my least favorite on Still.
BEKA~ I put my name on cdbaby months ago and still haven't heard anything. Colony for me!

i looked into colony records too, but cd baby is less expensive. colony can get the high prices because they have a lot of rare stuff that you can't get anywhere else.
ultimate favorite -

When did you put your name in?
Does anyone know why there is no lyrics booklet for Here? I am assuming it is money related.

here is an "EP" (i totally forget what it stands for) it's 6 tracks and it's usually acoustic. it's often a small budget CD. here probably doesn't have a lyrics book because idina isn't REALLY signed with a record label, and i'm sure this was on a smaller budget than still i can't be still was.

It definitely took me a while to get used to Still I Can't be Still...some of it seemed a little too random, and honestly some of the songs I thought she could've sounded a little better. But it shows off her range a lot more than Here, and eventually I got used to Still and liked a lot of the songs...that happens to me a lot though, there are many times when i've hated a cd or the cast recording of a show at first, but them warm up to it.

I bought both in NYC a while back. I like listening to "Here" before I go to bed. It relaxes me. I love how husky her voice sounds on that one.
I'm still warming up to "Still I Can't Be Still." I don't usually listen to that genre of music, but because of Idina, I thought what the hell. Good CD, though. Just not really my cup of tea.
Hmmmm...maybe I did it incorrectly or something. Whatever, it doesn't matter anymore.
I find it interesting that she uses her lower voice (sorry, not sure of the correct terminology) for most of Still. Isn't she actually a soprano? The low voice took some getting used to for me.

Idina's known for her belting, so I thought using her chest voice was normal for her...I think I'd be surprised if she started singing in a soprano voice

Yes, she is a classically trained soprano. Sings mezzo, though. Oh, and I love her lower register as well.

During Idina's concert at the Zipper she mentioned that she's 'no longer' a soprano...so I'm guessing she'll be belting from now on
Yeah, maybe I didn't say it right. I know nothing about terminology. It just seems to me that in Still her voice it is REALLY low. I adore her belting voice though. I am probably not making any sense, but her low voice took some getting used to for me after hearing her Elphaba belting voice. They sound really different to me. Sorry. I really have no idea what I am talking about...

have you heard her as maureen? (or have the cast recording of rent?) I thought her voice as that character and in Still sounded very similar...I thought elphaba was a little more "musical-theatery" how's that for correct terminology??
Ironically, my copy of Here arrived in the mail today! I'm importing it to iTunes even as I type. It is wonderful! I love her voice and her lyrics, especially So Beautiful. Just wish there were a few more songs. I have Still I Can't Be Still also. My favorite from that one would have to be Heart on My Sleeve. My daughter did a Jazz routine to that in a dance workshop last year. That song was really my introduction to Idina even though I knew about Wicked. I hadn't really listened to the musical and Wicked mania had not yet come to my house (as it has now.)
My copy of Still I Can't Be Still came from cd baby. They send funniest emails to notify you your order has been shipped. Some stuff about your CD being handled with contaminant free gloves on a satin pillow before it was polished and packed in a gold lined box.
