It seems to have become an AI dumping ground.
Which is fine for performers like Frenchie Davis and Fantasia who are talented, but bad when it's just plain stunt casting. (Taylor Hicks in GREASE, anyone)?

If they are good enough and right enough it's great.

However, stunt casting just to sell tix annoys me.

that is EXACTLY who i was thinking...did he win american idol? wow, he should make an album! and diana degarmo is good too, but clay aiken (personal opinion) WHY THE HECK did he do spamalot?

Lakisha Jones also was part of The Color Purple.I would actually like to see Lakisha Jones and Syesha Mercado do Dreamgirls playing Deena and Effie. I know it sounds weird but it could be awesome.

the fact that i can't spell (which i can't) and i hate how broadway just gives american idol alumn's parts in musicals which diserve to be gotten, not handed to because they've been on t.v.

i dont want anyone to take sides, i was simply saying i didnt like how they put AI people in shows when "broadway people" diserve the parts more than taylor hicks does

and even if it's the teen angel, its the principle of it that makes me mad, not the celebs. it would be like, if they tried to replace kerry ellis in wicked with...i dont know...sanjaya

I get what you're saying but Broadway is a business.

I am very "old school" about Broadway, and everything, but it's changed a lot in the last 15 years (especially).

I understand many of you are purists... as am I... but if you want the Broadway theatre world to continue and prosper, you MUST understand and accept the business side of things.

true, i understand that, producers feel like they need to put someone in there to bring in the money, it just hurts me knowing im an aspiring actor, and the thought that i might not get a part to a show because some celeb is coming in makes me cringe..

well... usually celebrities are cast in the bigger roles or in a "special" role (i.e. Taylor Hicks) -- does that put YOU out of business if you're just an aspiring actor? I highly doubt it.
