Posted: 1/3/08 at 4:24pmWow, so most of you really don't love theatre is what I am gathering here. You're all just "fans" of musicals.

Posted: 1/3/08 at 4:33pmI would absolutely go. I wish I was seeing more plays now anyway. But all the people I go to the theatre with perfer musicals so that's what I end up seeing.

Carl Magnum...I don't see it that way at all, at least not for me.
My answer is based on several factors...
1) My true love in theatre is muscials. I love plays and operas and other types of theatre, but musicals are my passion. I have performed in plays, operettas, etc. Even so, my main focus is musicals. Perhaps it's because that was the first thing I was exposed, when I was taken to see Cats in Chicago at the age of 3. I even remember parts of that show. I was mesmerized and I was hooked. It could also be that my parents sparked this obsession, but aren't really theatre people themselves. So if they were going to take me to something, it was going to be a musical that they would enjoy, too. It could also be because I was singing pretty much as soon as I was talking and music is just a really important part of my life. I do like plays, but I LOVE musicals. Plays just don't get my pulse racing and the excited butterflies in my stomach quite like musicals do. Whereas, I have a friend who is an actress and she has never really been interested in musicals. She did her first last month and decided that it is intriguing to her. I'm taking her to her first Broadway show later this month and we both figure that she will fall in love with them, too. I think that you can be more interested in one aspect of theatre and still be a lover of it and not just a fan.
2) My decisions of what to see are largely based on money right now. Since I'm in DC, it costs money to get to NYC. To either stay overnight or make a really long day of it. Then, since I can't get there all that often, I prioritize what I want to see and musicals are always at the top of my list. If I closer and could get to the theatre more often, I would definitely add plays into the rotation more often.

We see both. This kind of reminds me of a Lenny Bruce question

You have a chance to see Death of A Salesman or Ring Of Fire. Plays are just as good & maybe better than musicals depending on the show.
Bryan, we all know which one you would pick so you are excluded.
