I noticed that most of the shows mentioned in "It's Time For A Revival Of..." were musicals. This got me wondering, if all the musicals running in New York City suddenly closed and no new ones or revivals opened, would you still go to the theatre? I like musicals, but to me, there is more to theatre than musicals.

No. I hardly ever see plays. I don't like being in them either. It's more difficult for me to stay interested without hearing songs that I like. I save my "straight plays" for the movie theatre. Plus, musicals tend to be more big budget and I hate paying the same price to see a play that I pay to see a musical when I know they didn't spend as much money on it. Technically they're making more money just by spending less and charging the same price which doesn't seem right. Though I do know that plays tend to be less successful than musicals these days. I suppose if it was something I had to get used to I would, but I wouldn't prefer it. Updated On: 1/3/08 at 01:11 AM

If only plays were running on Broadway, I'd be slightly less interested in theatre.

Before this year I don't know what I would have said, but this season I have found myself going to more plays and I find that I really enjoy them. Even though musicals hold a special place in my heart, I think that I would still go to see the straight plays.

I go to a lot more plays than musicals, so that wouldn't cause a major change to my interest in theater.

I'd still go to theatre! That's how it pretty much started.

I wouldn't make special trips to the city just to go to the theatre like I do now for just plays. If I was in the city, sure. But I wouldn't be as fascinated by Broadway if there were no musicals. I really am a musical theatre fan first. Even now, I'm interested in a lot of the plays, but I won't probably see them until I've seen the musicals I want to see first. I probably should do one of each...but as of right now, I don't.

Given that none of the new musicals currently running interest me in the slightest while the majority of the plays have captured my imagination, I'd say it would be an improvement. And no, it wouldn't change my theatregoing habits.

eta/clarify: The musicals that opened before say November are fine. I've seen and like them alright. Xanadu is a fun bit, but I can only take so much of it. The ones that have opened since November I have little to no interest in.

I would be ok with it. I adore musicals, but see many more plays at least regionally.

I see a lot more musicals in general, but I'm starting to get into more plays, so yes, I would still go.

I've seen more straight plays just in 2007 than I had in the 5 years previous, so I would still go to the theatre, and if they were the only things running I would end up seeing even more of them, however my real love is for musicals.

I think I'd also be less interested in theater. I've seen some plays and have been a bit bored.

I try to see everything, so I'd be upset, but I'd have more time to see all of the plays (although I've seen most of those that have opened this season).

I love plays, but NYC is the only place where I can see top-notch Equity productions of musicals. A year or so after a play closes, I can see a strong production in my home city. But a musical is never the same as on Broadway (or a tour of a Broadway show).

Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
