If American Psycho hadn't closed, would it be doomed now.

I was thinking that the premature and quick closing of American Psycho may have been a blessing in disguise. I can't imagine had the show been more successful or had been nominated for Tonys how it would fare after Orlando. With all the club scenes, Killing Spree and Patrick's disdain for homosexuals, it would be upsetting to many and producers would have a quandary on their hands.

Seems like the universe stepped in at the right time. I loved the show, but the timing was just really off.

I sort of get where you're coming from but #1, American Psycho is satire. and #2 there are no guns, Patrick doesn't shoot anyone.

During "Killing Spree" he does have a shotgun, if only for a brief moment.

But no, I don't think the show would have been doomed. The satire came through very well when I saw it, and I would guess that it might have a couple of rough days after the event in Orlando, but I doubt it would have doomed the show, or even really hurt the grosses significantly.

If they HAD performed (which I really wish they would have gone the option of sticking it out the few extra weeks and hoping that a Tony performance could boost the sales) it likely would have been Selling Out or You Are What You Wear they performed. I doubt they would have performed anything super violent or bloody with or without the timing because Tony night is also a family show. Look back at the backlash from parents that Kinky Boots got and that was with a super TAME number. I doubt they would have wanted that.
